The poignant experiences of the accomplished singer/songwriter/producer Missy Burton resonates through the penned lyrics of every song and every word which is a tribute to pain, anguish, joy and delight in her life. With creative, artistic empowerment, Missy Burton transforms even the uninvolved listener into an active participant as she passionately illuminates the circle of life's experiences in her latest project, Blue Lights In Tha Basement.
The Dallas-based songbird's sultry, disarming voice and intense lyrics quicken the subconscious realm of every music lover as she evokes images of ecstasy in songs like MMMMM. Missy enlightens us with her definition of exact love with Love Is… In the clandestinely haunting, Every Time I See You, Missy illustrates the aching desire for lasting devoted love. Blue Lights In Tha Basement was in part recorded live at the Composer's Showcase for Black Music Month at the South Dallas Cultural Center. "Blue Lights in tha Basement - Blue evokes images of intense emotions to me. It is the color I imagine all human emotions to be at their peak," Missy says. She continues. "Blue represents the pinnacle of vulnerability to me and I am very vulnerable on this project. That's why it's in the basement," Missy adds. "You know where you keep all those valuable antiques and that ugly lamp and coffee table because you don't want anyone to see it. You can't throw it away because you have an emotional attachment to it but you don't want it on display either so you put it in the basement. The basement is a safe hiding place."
Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in a family of musicians, Missy Burton's remarkable talent and versatility not only encompasses song writing, but poetry, children's stories, short stories and two-stage productions. Missy's first production (with accompanying music score) entitled "She's Not Our Sister", made its debut in Dallas at the Majestic Theater in 1998. Missy's second stage production, "Hidden Betrayals", was a tremendous success at the CATZ Theater in Lewisville, Texas in the winter of 2002, and also scored big at the Friendship-West Baptist Church in the summer of the same year.
A businesswoman as well as an artist, Missy Burton does all of her artistic endeavors under the umbrella of her own company, Shiney Eye Entertainment. "I have been self contained as a singer/songwriter/producer/playwright for a little over 10 years now," Missy says. "One of my companies, Actual Illusions Entertainment, provides technical sound and lighting as well as videography. More recently I established Shiney Eye Entertainment because I ultimately want to not only have my own record label but I would like to write and produce for other artists as well."
Missy Burton has recorded four solo projects. Her first CD, Au Revoir, Butterfly, became an underground smash in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Missy's second project, Diary of a Scorpion, and her third album, Soliloquy, were both well received in the southwest. Known for her high-energy performances with her band, Scorpio du jour, Missy Burton was one of four composers chosen by the City of Dallas to be showcased in honor of Black Music Month in 2001 and more recently, 2003.
In October 2003, Missy Burton made an executive decision to take her career to the next level and merge with Enfiniti Entertainment/Recording Company, an independent label based in Dallas. The union with Enfiniti will not only allow Missy Burton creative control, it will also empower her with distribution and marketing strategies that promise explosive growth. "I decided to sign an artist deal with Enfiniti Entertainment/Recording Company this past October," Missy says. "Over the years I have received many offers with different labels but I chose to stay independent and learn the business since this is what I ultimately want to do. Enfiniti presented me with an opportunity to remain independent while at the same time providing an international marketing plan as well as distribution."
In the musical milieu where innovation and distinctive sound remain vital components, Missy Burton welcomes the opportunity to publish her work and to utilize her song writing ability to interpret to the world the human experience in lyrical form. Missy Burton…the synergy of written word and melodic quality at its best. Embrace it. Embrace her.
