born in a small town outside of akron, oh, missy developed a love for music at a very young age. with older brothers and sisters in high school she was up on the latest 80's songs and loved performing various popular songs for her family starting at the age of even 1 (well, then she more chewed on the microphone and hummed...but it was a start.) her repertoire at that time consisted of michael jackson's "beat it" and the "annie" soundtrack. her sister, jenny, and herself liked to dress up in their tina turner wigs and sing "what's love got to do with it."...oh, that poor tina. she fell in love with music of all types when she found both a joy and solace in it that couldn't be mimicked anywhere else in her life. from listening to her mother's obsession, john denver, to the 80's rock she grew up with to the singer/songwriters she's fallen in love with today, missy felt a friend in every song she's listened to. growing up she performed in various choirs, show choirs and musicals, as well as performing solos in school and church and competing in solo and ensemble competitions. during high school she started songwriting as a way to express her emotions in a way she was never able to before.
after high school she attended john carroll university in cleveland, oh where she received a degree in marketing. while she followed the business path she felt was intended for her, she never lost her love for singing and songwriting. even though she was striving for another career, she decided to buy a guitar and hopefully learn to put music to those lyrics she had written for years. with only three chords in her back pocket, she annoyed her sister/roommate making up various songs on the spot that mirrored the phoebe buffet of "friends" style. after working in the business world for a couple years, missy knew in her heart her life wouldn't be complete if she didn't give it a shot at pursuing her life's passion of singing and songwriting.
so off she traveled the 2,600 miles to the great land of oz...oh wait, that's someone else's story...so off she traveled to the great land of los angeles, ca in the dawn of the year 2004. finally deciding to take her guitar playing seriously and actually be able to play the instrument and not just admire its beauty, she started taking lessons from a charasmatic belgian man who was as amazing at teaching the instrument as he was playing. along with her guitar instructor and her voice coach, she began to develop her unique style of singing and songwriting and learned to write accompaniment for her songs. when she finally felt comfortable enough to play in front of a crowd, she performed at her first open mic in the summer of 2005, where she met a fellow helpful musician who helped ease her nervousness and would be there to advise her still to this day. following a hard break-up she finally found it in herself to express herself in her songs with her now signature blatant honesty. with songs like "stay angry" she isn't afraid to express her true angst towards sad situations in her life, as well as find a positive side to going through tough circumstances.
after months of playing open mics she booked her first gig at the rainbow bar & grill in w. hollywood, ca. with much support from her friends and fans, missy continues to play at other famous venues in l.a., such as the pig n' whistle, the viper room and whiskey a-go-go. while she continues to strive to find the most honest and artistic lyrics to support her catchy melodies, she finds herself more and more and learns more about how her songs can affect others' emotions like the many great songs have done for herself.
