Influences
Mista Mayday is a union carpenter ( IWW and UBC), independent media activist, socialist and former NYC public school teacher (UFT and AFT). These elements of life in the modern global economy greatly influence the musical content, which is strongly grounded in realism. Mista Mayday is also married to the lovely Angel D. and has a daughter named Marley Phoenix, both of whom are a great influence and inspiration for his "songs of freedom." As far as musical influences there are too many to name, he draws from elements of nearly every genre of music to date.

THE SOUNDTRACK TO REVOLUTION......Brought to you by: The People.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A Scorpio, born in the year of the dragon, Mista Mayday is part of the ESP Krew and has been spinning and producing conscious, independent Hip-Hop since the early 90's. The beats have that classic "golden-age of hip-hop" sound and the lyrics are very critical of the government, to say the least, and set to spark a revolution when the opportunity arises.
First and foremost, Mayday is a beat producer, then a DJ and finally a lyricist. Being an ardent political activist and having so many beats readily available, it was only natural for him to pick up the pen and the mic. Most of his beats are currently made using an MPC-4000, however he has also utilized the SP-1200, ASR-10, ASR-X, MPC-60, MPC-3000, MPC-2000, Mirage, EPS 16+, S-950 and SP-12. He spins only vinyl (strickly real), although he began at an early age making "pause/break" mixes with a dual cassette deck--before sneaking into his father's DJ room (Nasty Nel) in '88. By '92 he had his first turns and began producing beats on a Gemini "push button" sampler and a TR-707. He started the hip-hop group Tactix with Lucky and Kid Hyp in high school , which later evolved and grew into ESP when in college. While steadily recording demos onto four-track recorders with the crew and pumping out mixtapes w/ his P in C UnPaid Bill he also linked up with The Demigodz and became Ap's DJ from '96-2000...................................................................
.......
Mayday has also had various college radio shows, including "Monday Nitro" w/ Luck-D on 90.1 in Poughkeepsie, "Tuesday Night at the Fights" with UnPaid Bill and Hired Gun on WMCR and "The Boombox from the Boondox" with Apathy on 91.7 WHUS in CT (which ironically was the exact show timeslot of DJ Doc 9 in the early 80's, where Mayday first loved Hip-Hop).........
.......
After teaching in Flatbush Brooklyn for several years and meeting his wife, Angel D, Mista Mayday and then fiance' moved to Portugal, backpacked around Europe, studied Marxism and wrote "The Algebra of Revolution" album, his freshman solo release. Mayday currently resides and continues to record with ESP at The Rebel Base, an undisclosed location, where he is raising his daughter and plotting the revolution to free all from the wicked class system known as Capitalism. The saga continues...

ESP has an extensive underground catalogue, including two EPs (Big Bang-CD and Eternal Soul Prophets-Vinyl) and two full-length CDs (Strange Force and Quantum). On the solo tip, Mayday has released two full length CDs (The Algebra of Revolution and Public Property) as well as produced The Usual Suspects debut CD (Motive) and an instrumental CD (The Outer Limits). Mista Mayday along with UnPaid Bill of ESP have also been releasing some of the dopest mixtapes since 1996, including the Dragon Series. Mayday is currently performing with the Frequency Activism project featuring Statistics, Hired Gun, Paint Dragon and a Live Funk/Jazz Band. Check the page for updates.

War and Racism
this is from a project called winter soldier that just happened. veterans of the iraq war came together to speak out about the atrocities they witnessed and participated in. this is the truth about iraq from the people who were there.
I think what your doing is great. I too, fed up with our government have found my way into the democratic process. It's time to push for a progressive agenda. I would vote for you if I could. In the past, through my music, I completely denounced the government and called for "anarchy in the streets". When my son was born 13 months ago, things changed. No more complaining, time to get involved. No more chaos, peace.
Indigenous Peoples Message to the U.S. antiwar movement
We call on the U.S. antiwar movement to acknowledge that the very establishment of the United States and it's expansion was built on the genocide against the First Nations/Indigenous Peoples of the continent, along with the enslavement of African peoples & exploitation of peoples from around the globe.
Iraq (and the over 130 countries that have a presence of U.S. military) is just a continuation of "Manifest Destiny" which cleared the continent for settler colonization. Thus it's not a "mistake" of U.S. policy, but is at the core of the very foundation of the U.S. from it's beginnings continuing thru to today.
Thus, we say that the antiwar mobilizations that are taking place in March/April 2008
1)have an indigenous person opening the events ackowledging the above history and it's continuation into the present day and how U.S. history is linked to today's war(s).
2)that there be an organized and visible collective presence of contingents focused on indigenous peoples concerns at the mobilizations along with that presence being also on the websites, press releases, media spokespeople, et. al of these groups/mobilizations.
3)that the indigenous names of cities/towns in the various indigenous languages be acknowledged by also being mentioned to remind people of the indigenous origins of this land (for example "Manatay" for what is now called Manhattan ) along with the peoples (for example: Lenape (& others)) and the original languages.
