Some say they're reminiscent of The Goo Goo Dolls and Green Day...well…hmmm… And some say they sound a bit like Blink 182…not…really. Foo Fighters...kind of…sort of, maybe. So how would one define Mr. Chu? Hard-edged alternative post-punk power pop? Definitions are subjective. Whatever you want to call them, they do deliver those crunchy catchy upbeat sounds, the kind that will stick in your head. Days after hearing one of their songs, you'll find yourself humming the melody, wondering where it came from and why it won't go away until you realize that it's that Mr. Chu band. Mr. Chu consists of singer/guitarist/songwriter Doug Fallone, bassist/ vocalist Ed Gunderman and Chris Florio backing up on drums. Performing live, they put out a ton of raw energy. Recent tri-state area appearences have included the Stone Pony, Maxwells, the Elbow Room & the Luna Lounge. If you can catch a live show, which I recommend, remember this: that's not a recording of Janis Joplin singing "Piece of My Heart." It's the big burly-guy Gunderman who, for some reason, can sound just like her on the only cover song in their regular set. Between songs and during breaks in songs, they show their sense of humor. Their songs on the other hand, are a little more serious. Hidden behind all its pains, sometimes flat out, sometimes with the question 'why?' Some songs are sprinkled with sarcasm or that sense of humor. They never ask for any sympathy. They offer two CDs for your enjoyment. Their first is called "Chu's Next", recorded with Mike Marri & Jon Berman, who's credits include Ours, Teenbeaters, & Scout, & "Chu on This", featuring six demo tracks and two live recordings.
