" The first time I heard Mr Bo was in a small club in Gothenburg about 18 years ago. I had just discovered blues through a radio show that one night played a couple of Howlin' Wolf tunes. It totally blew my mind. So when I found an ad in a newspaper a week later advertising "Live blues" at a club in town I thought it might be worth checking out. I found the place, and when I walked down the stairs to the club I was again struck by the power of blues, because on stage was Mr Bo, singing and playing his guitar. I just stood in the doorway and I didn't move until the song was over. I was hooked at once, it was the coolest thing I'd ever heard. I found a chair in front of the stage and sat down totally absorbed by the music. The band was really smoking and Mr Bo himself was so cool and played his guitar so mean that it sounded almost illegal. When you hear music that really moves you for the first time, it hits you hard, and this was a real knockout. When the band started packing their gear after two or three encores I still wanted more. When I went home with the music still ringing in my head I thought, this is it, I«ve got to learn how to make music like that too. To me that night was the beginning of a still lasting addiction to blues, and its all Mr Bo's fault. Since then he's been cutting his teeth further as a frontman for bands like the Boosters and the Nightcats, as well as touring with blues greats like Jimmy Dawkins and Lefty Dizz. Blues music of today, in a way, suffers from inflation. It has been handed around so much that some of its magic is lost. There are lots of musicians who know a lot of theory and fancy licks, they know the words but they don«t have anything to say. Bo, on the other hand, has a lot to say. He combines respect for tradition with a healthy dose of his own fresh ideas. He is one of those rare musicians who are able to preserve the bluespower. Helping him put the magic back into blues, his band the Voodooers, works as a perfect match for Mr Bo's witchcraft. When you hear Bo Hansson dishing out fat chords on his Hammond, Lars Mellqvist leaning back, getting deep into the groove while Roger Mörck spreads a thick layer of solid rhythms, and then, when Mr Bo unleashes his tone, THE tone that so many guitarists strive for and so few possess, you get BIG BLUES!
