Perseverance: To persist (as in an undertaking) in spite of difficulties. If you were to explain Mr. Seal’s grind, no other definition would be more appropriate…
A Myrtle Beach, South Carolina resident, Mr. Seal’s early childhood began in the Detroit Area of the 1980’s. Surrounded by the rich musical influences of the “Motown” as well as the emerging popularity of Hip-Hop culture and music, a dream was born. Not only did Mr. Seal relate to the messages of living through hardships and the process of trying to overcome them expressed in the “Golden-Era”, but the music became ingrained within his being.
Seeing the need for a more promising future, his family relocated to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in 1991. With only a dual-cassette tape recorder at his disposal, Mr. Seal became fascinated with making “pause tapes” in which he tried to duplicate the sounds of underground mixtapes he compassionately studied as well as produced crude beats. His family having limited resources, Mr. Seal solely saved up for his first deejay set-up to continue his education in beat science. Armed with two belt-drive turntables sporting quarters on the needles, a $20 microphone and a hand-me-down home stereo, his pursuit continued. As inspiration and drive grows, so does the need for change.
Mr. Seal, as many aspiring artists do, has gone through multiple equipment upgrades as well as musical experimentations. As a teenager and into his early twenties, Mr. Seal’s focus was primarily deejaying. Having deejayed multiple house parties and regional night clubs in the Carolinas, the need for growth without limitations cultivated into a dream beyond mixing other people’s music. Mr. Seal began recording in a self-built home studio in 2002. Needing emcees to produce over his beats, Mr. Seal formed a group called “Triple Platinum” consisting of a childhood friend and another local rapper he met through an acquaintance. Although he never intended for his rhyme skills to move beyond freestyling in social situations for fun, Mr. Seal was often coerced by his group-mates to add his 16’s to the mix until it became routine because of his natural ability for quick songwriting and vision for song-structures. The group’s greatest achievement was getting radio airplay on coast 97.3 fm in Wilmington, NC with their song “South Carolina.” As time passed, the need to move on became apparent. So like many groups, the members disbanded and with that Mr. Seal changed his moniker and decided on a solo career. Trying to find a signature sound for himself as well as a period of spiritual growth lead to the experimental album, “Mixed Emotions,” in which he released locally as a compact disc in small numbers in 2004. Realizing the much needed focus on sound quality as well as cohesiveness in an album, Mr. Seal went back to the drawing board and released “Man’s Theory” in 2006. Being his first attempt into the digital recording world, it was relatively more professional and closer to obtaining his musical vision. He released this project in the form of compact disc regionally in the Horry County area as well as in the Wilmington, North Carolina area. This was also his first attempt at releasing an album digitally as a free download. Mr. Seal, seeing the need to mature professionally as well as an attempt to set himself apart from the overly-saturated world of aspiring artists, started the musical entity Seal Productions, Inc in 2007.
Seal Productions, Inc. has become a multi-faceted corporation focusing on the production and marketing of urban-based music for the advancement of cultural awareness. The company’s duties include music production, graphic design, and artist development. Mr. Seal with his company, Seal Productions, Inc., also officially opened a commercial recording studio in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in October of 2007. Through this recording facility, Mr. Seal has obtained many production credits for independent artists and has teamed up with local sensation DJ QP to throw monthly showcase events to further the awareness and unity of the local Myrtle Beach Hip-Hop scene.
Not giving up on his goals and dreams as an independent artist, Mr. Seal has also opened for Dan Johns in 2008 and has been creating the highly-anticipated street album, “I’m the D.J., I’m the Rapper.” The album includes sensational collaborations with regional heavy-hitters Ocktane of the Sh.a.aw Brothers, Dan Johns, and Focus of U.C. Stradegez, with more to be announced.
Continuing his unwavering work ethic, Mr. Seal after being impressed with his sessions collaborating with Ocktane of the Sh.a.aw Brothers, is also in development of a group project under the title, "Moonlight Music…Burning Midnight Oil,” as well as a mixtape which is set to released before the street album entitled, "Snippets, Vol. 1."
“With nothing but a dream to hold onto, what else can I do but keep it movin’? Peace.”
