"We love the Misadventure Remix! It's one of our favourites. We both absolutely love it and think that Gary is an undiscovered genius. The production is incredible! I never thought such a miserable song could sound so upbeat and so dancy! We'd love him to remix us again in the future...Genius" (Freudstein) www.freudstein.co.uk
Gary Hughes, a hugely respected Songwriter, Producer, Engineer and Multi-instrumentalist from London, UK. He has years of experience working in many different musical styles. His music demonstrates his undeniable talent as an all-round musician.
Gary began his professional career in 1995 as Drummer in "The Few", the darlings of the 90's Camden Indie scene. "The Few" had a massive following, being one of the five bands playing the acclaimed "NW1 Showcase".
Their music was Mod-inspired, High-Energy Brit Pop in a class of it's own - there was no one out there like them. Their popularity led them to play many live performances at exclusive London venues, namely 'The Forum - Kentish Town', 'The Marquee' and 'Dublin Castle'. But despite the growing success of the "The Few" and the opportunities that lay ahead, Gary felt he needed a new challenge. He wanted to explore other music and instruments, so he made the sacrifice to quit the band in 1997.
Following the eventual demise of "The Few", Gary started session work for the Rock band "Forever Street". His involvement with this band continued throughout various other projects until 1999. In the meantime, Gary had re-formed with fellow members of his first band "Apres V", to become the Indie/Funk band "Goldliner". It was during the recording of the first "Goldliner" CD, that his keen interest in computer-based music really developed. He became adept in the cutting up and creation of Drum loops whilst working as an in-house Engineer and Programmer at Chiwawah Music - as well as still performing on Drums and Bass with "Forever Street" and "Goldliner".
To add yet another string to his musical bow, Gary teamed up with long time friend and ex "Apres V" member, Max Rael. Max had already formed the experimental Post-Industrial Goth/Punk band "History Of Guns", which Gary worked with as a session Drummer, Bassist and Guitarist from 1997. Then together, despite all other projects going on, Max and Gary formed as "Blue Label" in 2002. "Blue Label" released their first CD 'The Picture Of Tom EP' on "Liquid Len Records", a label co-founded by the duo themselves. By this time however, "History Of Guns" had grown, as had Gary's own Production skills and so the decision was made to foresake the stage to explore his own style and music creation. Gary left "History Of Guns" in 2006, having been session member of the band since 1997 and also being responsible for classic tracks "Break" and "L.M.S".
After a fruitful spell of Engineering, Production and playing with a variety of bands, Gary embarked on a series of self-made tracks and remixes. Most notably, his re-working of the "Marillion" song "When I Meet God" (Blissed Remix). The track was featured on the "Marillion" album "Remixomotosis" and released on Racket Records in 2005.
"When I Meet God", along with a few of Gary's own tracks had caught the eye of International Singer/Songwriter, "Ive Mendes". Ive had been looking for an inspirational Producer to work with for her new musical projects and ideas. She 'fell in love' with Gary's sound and the two arranged to meet in the studio. Gary is now playing session Keyboards for the "Ive Mendes Band", working alongside some of the industry's most respected musicians: "Tony Remy"(Guitarist for Annie Lennox), "Nick Cohen"(Bassist for "Massive Attack"), "Tristan Banks" (Drummer for "The Brand New Heavies") and "Ollie Savill"(Percussion for "Basement Jaxx").
Gary's studio work with Ive Mendes continues, as does his own 'Eclectic' Dance Music. His remix of the "Freudstein" track 'Misadventure' will be featured on their next album which is due for release on Lineout Records sometime in 2007. He has now contributed to over 200 songs and we will be sure to hear more of his work in the not too distant future.
