From reading the plot outline of From Parts Unknown, there seems to
be a whole lot of stuff going on in this film. In your words, what should
we be looking for here?
From a director's point of view I treated PARTS as the story of a young girl
struggling to follow her dreams in the face of a hostile and oppressive world
that doesn't seem to want her to. That doesn't explain a lot about the nature of
the film because, as you say, there is a lot going on. There's professional
wrestling action, murderous, flesh eating crazies created by a high tech video
game gone awry, a backstory about military experimentation, and a love triangle
stuck in the middle of it all. It's across a number of genres so the only way to make
it cohesive was to focus on the story of Charlie, a female wrestler with issues
in her past, at work and in her love life, who is forced to take on a battle to save
the world from dangerous technology that sends folk homicidal. It's almost a
super-hero origin story, showing how she grows from a confused girl-next-door
into a zombie butt kicking save-the-world heroine. I guess I would say look out
for a fast paced character driven story, choc full of fermale wrestling,
flesh-gnawing bad guys (and girls), humour and drama with a garnish
