"mistrust" is Tim Blackburn from the UK. He's a typical bedroom musician - writing and recording songs at home, on and off for over 10 years, but never playing them to anyone outside of his family and friends. It's only in the last few years that mistrust has made any of his music public, and the reaction to it has been overwhelmingly positive. His first release came on the Nishi netlabel, which led to some of his songs being used by a major sports company for a worldwide promotion campaign. It was a passing remark by Big Chill artist and DJ The Only Michael that put mistrust in touch with Pitch Black which resulted in his first real attempt at remixing someone else's songs. His inclusion on the Rude Mechanicals EP in late 2008 was mistrust's biggest break in the music world to-date, and has since led to the other remixing opportunities and releases.
mistrust's style of music is probably best described as "downtempo electronica", with a dub element to it. He has been compared to and influenced by bands like Leftfield, Zero 7, Gary Numan, and of course, New Zealand's own Pitch Black. mistrust is unsigned but will be releasing some new tunes in Summer 2009, on his own label, "mistrust music".
