MISTY EDWARDS has been a worship leader and song writer at the International House of Prayer in Kansas City since May 1999; it's beginning. Her hunger for reality and depth of encounter with Jesus fuels her worshiop leading, songwriting and preaching. Misty is on the leadership team that trains and gives oversight to IHOP's worship leaders and prophetic singers.
Misty says, "I have a great desire to see the knowledge of God flood this generation. I mean the real knowledge of God, not the distant Sunday School version but the true encounter with the Uncreated. I have devoted my life to searching Him out through His Word, prayer and fasting, and to ask Him to reveal Himself in my day and time. There's no other point for my existence but to touch the Transcendent. I believe that this is the generation who will usher in the Son of Man as we intercede from our highest identity as a Bride crying out, " Come!" unsatisfied with anything less than Him. As Eternity breaks in we will awaken the Dawn with a song and the Morning Star will rise to have His inheritance on this planet! This is all I care about."
And I don't think it was talking about butterflies.
But the risk--oh, the risk of leaving the swaddling warmth of a cocoon. My cocoon. My status quo. My. . . deadening security. To leave the known, no matter how confining it may be--for an unknown, a totally new lifestyle-- oh, the risk!
Lord, my cocoon chafes, sometimes. But I know its restrictions. And it's scarey to consider the awful implications of flight. I'm leery of heights. (Even your heights.) But, Lord, I could see so much wider, clearer from heights. And there's an exhilaration about flight that I have always longed for. I want to fly. . . if I could just have the cocoon to come back to. Butterflies can't. Probably butterflies don't even want to-- once they've tasted flight.
It's the risk that makes me hesitate. The knowing I can't come back to the warm, undemanding status quo.
Lord. . . about butterflies. . . the cocoon has only two choices-- risk or die What about me? If I refuse to risk, do I, too, die inside, still wrapped in the swaddling web?

Last time a girl who just had a cast put on with a broken elbow in three places told her dad to take the cast off. I want to trust You, my Lord, but sometimes I feel like I can’t count on anyone to keep his or her word. So please forgive me for doubting You. Help me to remember that You are not like those who have broken their promises to me. You are the one who is faithful and true. Renew my faith from this day forward, and may I never forget all You have already done to prove Your promises are true.
