"There are musicians who isolate themselves and take their time writing and recording albums - Radiohead, U2 and Peter Gabriel, among them - and usually the care and effort they put in produces a near-perfect product.
You can add St. George's Misty Murphy to that list.
"All of my favorite artists release albums every five years," Murphy said.
Murphy just released her second solo album, "Venus," five years after her debut, "Circles."- David Burger - Salt Lake Tribune
me, red wine, logic pro7 and a little white macintosh. oh, and sometimes these dudes.....
Influences
half moons, infactuations, peter gabriel, sex, deprivation, radiohead, internalizations, the ocean, the desert, pink floyd, the calm sky, those brutal words, you, me, these dreams
My new album VENUS is now available. These songs were written and recorded over the past 5 years in my home studio. This is my second solo cd, the first CIRCLES was released in 2002. I am originally from Salt Lake City, but I now reside in a small desert town in southern Utah. I moved here primarily to be closer to my other passion, rock climbing.
You can find my music here, at my website www.mistymurphy.com, www.podclimber.com, www.momentumvm.com, www.cdbaby.net, and itunes.
We'll head down to Maple early Wednesday morning. Where will you be? I know Maple fairly well. I helped build the bridge across the creek by the Schoolroom, and built some trails and belay flats near there as well. I'm not up on all the new routes, but I do have a general sense of where some of them are. I haven't had any success stealing an advance copy of DK's guide book -- you know, that mythological text that is supposed to surface someday... Anyway, gimme a heads-up on where you might be and we'll try to track you down.
When? And if I'm a little more unpacked, absolutely. I bouldered a bit at the Quarry two days ago and I'm impossibly weak, but apparently I can still belay well... and perhaps fall repeatedly on the crux of an easy 5.9. Lemme know.
I went for a run this morning and it was snowing. no shit. i will probably melt before i drown. we rented a house on playa grande the first week, then we are staying here: www. cabinaslasolas. com and here: www. hotelbulabula. com We will think of and miss you guys a ton. Steve is going to look for the time capsule he and bill buried. HA! so funny.
Misty, Just a reminder, if you wouldn't mind to spare a couple minutes and register and vote for me in an unsigned artist music contest I entered. You can leave a vote each day, but only if you have registered and login.
Once you login, if you go to my musician profile you will see a big button that says "vote for me". Once again, you can leave a vote per day.
You can also rank my songs, but doing this doesn't count in the voting process.
Anyways, a gig in NY and 15k is up for grabs....thanks in advance to those who are willing to offer a quick show of support.
Great voice and music! You have a dreamy and original sound, love it! Huge props for the great sounding production, only a one man (or woman) band knows how much work it is to look at a song from so many angles. I hope to see you perform soon here in SG. :)
we are really only going back to buy more coffee ....oh and for imperial and conchal and grande and ridin dirty and 18 smoodies and to be somewhere where the muffin top is still in,...lunch at lola's?
yeah i know. starting a new job, waiting to get married and buy house kind of takes a toll on rock climbing right now. i'll be out there though. it all looks rad!
Thanks for the add... I have been looking for more music from Cork for a while and am glad to see there is a new CD out for purchase... hope more is to come!
