-From post-apocalyptic jazz to scintillating trance hypnotism, the Mitch Marcus Quintet delivers a unique brand of original music, taking you through a labyrinth of ever-shifting textures. Comprised of some of the SF Bay Area's finest musicians, this dynamic collective features the extended compositions of saxophonists Mitch Marcus and Sylvain Carton, as well as the rumbling opuses of drummer Ches Smith.
-Currently based out of Berkeley, CA, the members of the group also play in many other groups in and around the SF Bay Area. These groups include The Japonize Elephants, Donovan, Good For Cows, Kipple, The Nathan Clevenger Group, The Mitch Marcus Quintet + 13, Stanley, Aphrodesia, The Marcus Shelby Orchestra, MegaMousse, The Supplicants, The Matt Small Chamber Ensemble, Nevada, Lefty, Shotgun Wedding Hip-Hop Symphony, Realistic Orchestra, Marc Ribot's Ceramic Dog, Convulsant Trio, The Secret Chiefs 3, Loose Wig, Ted Brinkley's Jazz Argosy, Ben Adams Quintet, Helsinki Skylight, Detroit Grand Pubah's, and more that I'm probably forgetting at the moment!

Come join the celebration over the release of our new CD – Boteco!!
‘Boteco’ is an artful mixture of neo-futuristic traditional Brazilian rhythms with the right quantity of the best North American spices. It is funk and rock boiling and baking with samba, maracatu, frevo and baiao.
Put Pele and Mohammed Ali in a fictional mix machine. Now add Frank Zappa, Sergio Mendes, Tom Jobim and Roger Waters and fused in to one. What a mix eh? Bat Makumba is this fusion, multiplied by 2.
