Mitra's debut album is a fantastically filthy collection of scabby doom-drenched rock-n-roll that's about as subtle as a chainsaw to the face. They wallow in darker regions and tap into their primal urges to create the monolithically heavy grooves that hinge "All Gods Kill" together. Very ace indeed. With so much death metal and screamo in the metroplex, what's a headbanging purist to do? Enter Mitra"s "All Gods Kill" whose fangs come from solid songwriting, not just sheer force. Not that this disc is whimpy, matter of fact, it's a purists album, a love letter (or maybe a hate letter?) to late '80's and early '90's metal. Mitra is a band full of piss and vinegar, or better yet, booze and balls. Heavy, hard driving, and nonstop audio thunder is what these Texas boys produce consistently throughout their debut album "All Gods Kill". Not only are all of the songs brutally punishing, the name "Mitra" itself means "god of justice", so this group seems to present the full package of image and content. Think of "All Gods Kill" as the soundtrack for a rough and tough scenario of multiple smackdowns being administered in the middle of a bar fight. Mitra = Motorhead + Marijuana + Hieronymus Bosch Here's a chronological recap of what happened when I first listened to "All Gods Kill". I was a decent person. I opened the CD, I put it in the player, and I instantly became evil. This is the sort of album that has the capacity to turn any good Christian into an unadulterated axe murderer. The album is a blues-tinged, southern rooted, stripped down, no-nonsense hard rock at its best.It makes Metallica look like a bunch of pussies and your average speed metal gods look like pretentious poseurs.
