Bio
The Mizzen Men are a Celtic/Folk Father & Son Duo based out The Maritime Provinces... The group, which are multi-instrumentalists, consists of Wayne Burke on Lead Vocals, Rhythm Guitar and Bodhran, and his son Chris on Lead & Harmony Vocals, Lead Guitar, Mandola, Tin Whistles, Flute and Bodhran... Their repertoire consists of many original compositions, rollicking Sea Shanty's, haunting Folk songs, along with a wide variety of tunes from many genres… The Mizzen Men have been entertaining audiences all around Atlantic Canada since 1999, including such venues as "The Stan Rogers Folk Festival", "The East Coast Music Awards", and "The Canadian Country Music Awards", "The Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival", "Festival By The Sea" (Saint John, NB...), "The Big Pond Folk Festival" (Cape Breton...), "The Pictou Country Lobster Festival", and just too many others to mention… Chris married and moved to Ontario in 2004, although the Burke's continued to perform whenever an opportunity presented itself... During his 8 years away from the Maritimes, Chris continued to perform with several different bands, playing a variety of different genres of music... Wayne has never stopped playing, be it with different friends or as a solo performer... He has been a mainstay on the PEI/NS ferries each summer since moving to Prince Edward Island in 2004, and has performed at many venues on the Island and around Atlantic Canada... With 3 CD's to their credit, The Mizzen Men are no strangers to the recording studio, or in writing their own compositions... All 3 recordings were done at The Sound Expression Studio's in Lake Utopia, NB, with Producer Christian Gay...Many of the tunes they have written involved both Wayne and Chris, Wayne writing the lyrics and Chris composing the music... Chris recently moved his family to Prince Edward Island, allowing The Mizzen Men the opportunity to rejuvenate their music and start performing together once again, an opportunity that both Wayne and Chris are looking forward too... Wayne and Chris will be spending the next few months "jamming", get their tight Father/Son sound and harmonies back to where they were in 2004, and in the New Year, hope to focus their efforts toward concerts and the Festival circuit, as this is where their true passion lies… Getting their audiences involved in their "Maritime Kitchen Party" sound, has made The Mizzen Men a favourite among convention organizers and concert goers all around the Maritimes over the years… So prepare to tap your toes, clap your hands and sing along, as this Duo invites you into their kitchen for a good ole' fashion Maritime Ceilidh… -
