    .. Matt Owens is a bassist, composer and arranger based in Manchester, UK... Projects include salsa band Almeida Girl & Descarga which toured the UK extensively. Their album Llanita was released to critical acclaim in 2004 with Matt’s arrangement of I Heard It Through The Grapevine being licensed to several compilation albums. In 2007 the band evolved to La Gran Descarga, a 22-piece Latin big band with Matt arranging for the colossal ensemble. La Gran Descarga performed at Salford’s Lowry theatre and Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall. .. Matt wrote and arranged several pieces for the Barnwell/Chadwick Double Quartet (jazz quartet with string quartet), that premiered at the 2005 Manchester Jazz Festival. .. Other projects include The Magic Beans, Baked A La Ska and The Wagon Train, all of which have recently released albums. .. In 2009 Matt was commissioned by The Manchester Jazz festival to write Ten, a suite of pieces that combined jazz quartet, wind quintet and tuned percussion. A selection of the pieces from this concert feature in the pop out player above. .. Matt has just finished playing bass, arranging and orchestrating for Kirsty Almeida’s debut album which was produced by Youth and is to be released on Decca Records in 2010. ..
