This slide show represents a preview of American Actor: Episode 2. Our Select 6 Finalists are sent to shoot a 5 minute short film. All the footage of the 3 Teams of 2 Actors will be screened by professionals in the Television and Film Industries. Participating Philadelphia-Area Universities on these film shoots included Drexel, LaSalle and University of the Arts. The Final 3 will be chosen by a new panel but the results won't be revealed until our December 11 Live Show!

Follow the "American Actor story right here on Myspace! Our first slide show chronicles Round 1 at Mike Lemon Casting. Hundreds of actors turned out to qualify for the Top 50 to advance to Round 2. The Round 1 audition, presided over by panelists Mike Lemon, Scott Evans and Diane Walsh, entailed two parts. 1) They asked the actors, "Why do you want to be an actor?" and 2) Say the line "I Love You" in 3 genres: Classical Theater, Contemporary Dramatic Movie, and Sketch Comedy (a la SNL). "American Actor: Round 2" was billed as "The Ultimate Monologue Slam". 50 Actors competed in a Battle Royal to qualify for Round 3. Each Actor gave a one-minute monologue. After the actors completed their scripted monologue, "American Actor" Creator Mike Shoeman served as a pitcher throwing the Actors a "Curve Ball". This entailed the Actors repeating their monologues into their own words with a very unexpected character twist in order to demonstrate their range. An American Actor Curve Ball is the equivalent of a Pro Ball Player in top form hitting a tricky pitch! "American Actor: Round 3" was advertised as "Sexy Sunday". 13 couples competed in what was to become American Actor's answer to the Tag-Team or Couple's Figure Skating. Each couple were given a choice of 3 Love Scenes (written by head writer Michelle D'Aquino) with very specific character challenges which usually addressed the participant's greatest personal challenge as an actor. This contest represented every intellectual, emotional, physical, spiritual and cultural road block the producers could think of. Controversy sparked as it was revealed that only teams could progress on to the "American Actor" Final 12. In this round, teamwork was the only thing that bought you a ticket into Round 4 and cracking the Select 6.

"American Actor: Round 4" became the decisive contest in finding the Select 6 to qualify for Episode 2. Round 4 was American Actor's version of "The Gong Show". 6 Teams of 2 Actors were given the stage to hold the 5 panelists attention. Once one panelist's attention was lost, they threw in towel (literally) to end the scene. This time the individual actor was allowed to progress to the Select 6. LaPenta and I took acting classes together and I loved working with LaPenta.
LaPenta used my last name like it was my first, so....it's LaPenta.
Because LaPenta and I would do scene study, LaPenta would clue me in about what I was doing right and wrong in a scene.
I'd tell LaPenta that he had a bold LaPenta edginess and a uniquely LaPenta style.
Not that LaPenta did much comedy, but LaPenta had a humor about him that cut to the core of the matter. I'd say, "LaPenta, you can be one funny #&%* when you want to be.

Mr. Lapenta should be American Actor. Lapenta is comical, Lapenta is dramatic, Lapenta can play heroic, Lapenta can do meloncholy, Lapenta is so versatile I don't think Lapenta even knows how good Lapenta is. Although Lapenta will tell you 'It's not about Lapenta, its about the craft.' That’s what makes Lapenta Lapenta. Lapenta’s ability to see beyond Lapenta and do what’s best for the piece Lapenta is a part of. When Lapenta studies for a role, Lapenta keeps the message at the front of his intent and Lapenta’s personal goals come secondary. Having shared the stage with Lapenta I can say that Lapenta is a talented, giving actor who focuses less on Lapenta and more on his fellow actors. So my vote is for Lapenta.
