A raw rarity. With only a little over a year on the local Sydney scene, he has proved himself times over, advancing as a songwriter to a calibre that would usually take most solo artists years to achieve. With a powerful voice his secret weapon instantaneously captivating audience's attention, it holds a unique ability to draw in bystanders who are again mesmerized to witness a short, fragile 22 year old as the source of such an instrument with tones of such experience and maturity.
With the strong uniquely tensioned quality in his soulful voice he has prompted comparisons possessing a one-of-a-kind vibrato and timbre similar to that of Tracey Chapman, whilst bearing an emotional intensity as vivid as James Blunt or Eddie Vedder with an innocence as compelling as Jeff Buckley & Adam Levine. Together combining to create lyrically intense, dynamically impressive, risk taking melodramatic pop songs that are deep, powerful and mysteriously beautiful, representing his own underlying story whilst still written to be broadly open for interpretation. All of which never fail to consistently leave a lasting impression at every performance.
In March 2009, he was one of the last men standing sharing equal 1st in The Piano Rooms Singer-Songwriter Competition Series 3, tying with that of a 4-piece band. From originally 48 acts down to 9 competing in the grand final, 5 of which were bands, he managed to impress the audience and judges including Kirk Pengilly from INXS with an intriguing solo acoustic performance.
In a city and a world, that is rich with diversity, MjWoodbridge not only stands out from the crowd, he bewilders audiences both musically and visually, "Through his powerful and fragile human space he creates on stage" he fuses individualism and diversity through music, bringing people together, inspiring and reinforcing others to accept each of our differences within ourselves and each other, "...that surely reminds an audience what it's like to be human."
If you've ever gone by the saying "Don't judge a book by it's cover" MjWoodbridge invites you to judge an unexpected experience.
