Meet the current squad. (Sorry, I mean Franchise soccer ball team roster.)
Players / Co-Managers
6. Nick Bellett
DOB 04/08/73
Otherwise known as NickGT6
A former Community Cup semi-finalist, Nick is one of the longest serving members of the MKDSAFC squad after he made his debut against Glentoran – on the very site that MK Dons now play their competitive football – all the way back in 2004. Part of the MKDSA management team, as well as vice-captain, Nick put in an assured centre-half display against the Media Tarts in 2006 before carving a niche for himself on the right hand side of the defence from the beginning of 2007 with a series of composed displays. Had an unlucky run in late 2006/07 with one own goal and one harsh penalty decision going against him in two successive games, but even this didn’t put him off his stride. An intelligent passer of the ball who never buckles under pressure, Nick can cover in any position across the back four as well as operating in a holding midfield role and is sure to be a regular feature in the SA side over the coming year. Vice-captain.
9. Joe Meddings
DOB 24/08/84
Otherwise known as Surrey Don / Meddboy
Another of the longest serving members of the SA squad, Joe is a former Corporate Cup competitor and Community Cup semi-finalist who first made his SA debut back in the 2004/05 season while still residing in Guildford, Surrey. One of the most versatile members of the squad, he featured in several different positions including right-back, central midfield and at the heart of the defence during his time in a Dons shirt before returning to his natural right-wing position against Peterborough in March 2007, carving a niche for himself in the process with an all action display. Helped captain the side to Stewards Cup victory in May 2007, as well as solely taking charge on the pitch in the 6-1 victory – the SA’s biggest victory in their history – against BP just three months later A superb passer of the ball who also isn’t afraid to go for goal, he is one of the SA’s dead ball and throw-in specialists and has bags of pace and energy to boot. Penalty taker and captain.
The rest of the squad
1. Paul Lowe
DOB 30/06/88
Otherwise known as Porno
Paul came to the forefront of people’s attention during the run up to the climax of the 2006/07 season when, during a training match at The Bubble, he turned out for The Opposition and ended up having to be rushed to hospital after a collision with one of his own players left him with a concussion and several broken teeth. After a lengthy recuperation process over the summer, Paul attended the MKDSAFC trials in August 2007 and within a couple of weeks had as good as cemented himself as the first choice goalkeeper already. Proving to be extremely vocal, confident and a superb shot-stopper, Paul made his SA debut in the opening game of the season – the 6-1 victory over BP – commanding his area impeccably winning rave reviews in the process, and will be sure to play a big part in 2007/08.
1. Colin Berry
DOB 23/12/76
Otherwise known as NewBradDon / Big Col
Colin made his MKDSA debut in the 3-1 victory over Peterborough in early 2007 when the squad was in dire need of a regular goalkeeper, displaying good composure and a safe pair of hands in the penalty area. He was one of the main reasons for the SA’s victory on that day, and became a regular for the remainder of the season putting in a series of vocal and assured performances. Unfortunately for Colin, the emergence of Paul Lowe has pushed him down to number two in the pecking order for the 2007/08 campaign but you can guarantee that he will slot into proceedings quickly whenever he is called upon, making the players in front of him feel comfortable and confident.
2. Darren Kidd
DOB 06/05/71
Otherwise known as BuzzardDon
Another of our current squad members to have made his name in the 2006/07 campaign, Darren is a defensive minded player who is equally at home in the middle of a back 4 or as the holding player in midfield. Having made his squad debut in December 2006, since then he has also figured at right-back for the SA first XI. Strong on the ball, fierce in the tackle and superb in the air, he became noticeable sharper as the season progressed and he will be hoping to build on that during the forthcoming campaign. He also managed to open his scoring account for MKDSAFC, slotting home from close range during the 5-2 victory against the Stewards on the final day of the season – the same day that he managed to dislocate his shoulder, ruling him out for several weeks prior to the start of this season.
3. Martyn Barnes
DOB 16/04/79
Otherwise known as Barnsey
A terrier in the defence, Barnsey had figured for the SA squad in previous years before committing himself as a regular midway during the 2006/07 campaign with performances as a battling midfielder, and most notably as a no-nonsense, all action defender against both Peterborough and the Media Tarts later in the season – striking up strong partnerships in those games with Darren Kidd and former squad member Matt, his younger brother, respectively. Never stopping for breath, Martyn is another extremely vocal member of the squad and has plenty of composure on the ball. Equally at home in the heart of the defence as well on the left hand side of a back four, expect Martyn to be used as a squad member over the coming campaign as MKDSAFC look to build on the successful foundations they built last season.
4. Haydon Thornett
DOB 02/04/85
Otherwise known as Donny / H / Big Fairy
Haydon’s footballing ability is clear for all to see, and it was this fact that prompted the SA management team to ‘poach’ him on a last-minute free transfer from the MK Dons Club Staff side for the 2007/08 season, much to the delight of squad members and fans alike. A genuine match-winner with the intelligence and talent to be able to turn a game on it’s head, Haydon was one of several debutants in the thunderous 6-1 victory over BP in August 2007 – greatly impressing during a full 90-minutes showing – and officially committed his long-term future to MKDSAFC shortly after. Strong, agile, blindingly quick on the ball and deadly with both feet, Haydon is an exciting attacking midfielder who isn’t afraid to get stuck in where it hurts, and is sure to play a huge part in the forthcoming campaign.
5. Jamie Russell
DOB 10/09/80
Otherwise known as Jimbo
Another of the new signings for the 2007/08 season, Jamie came through the SA trial sessions and asserted himself almost instantly as a powerful, no-nonsense centre-back who isn’t afraid to get stuck in, making his squad debut in September 2007 against Boing FC. Extremely commanding in the air, strong in the tackle and comfortable on the ball, he quickly established himself as a necessity in the 2007/08 squad after just a couple of weeks and will be looking to impose himself further over the coming months. Still somewhat of an unknown quantity, but you can guarantee that Jamie will give everything for the cause and will do everything he can to cement himself as a regular fixture in the starting XI.
8. Ashley Foster
DOB 28/07/89
Otherwise known as Fozzy Dizzle
A former 5-goal hero in the MKDSA Under-18’s victory over Barnet in 2006, Ashley made the regular step up to the senior game in late 2006 having previously represented the MKDSAFC against the Media Tarts back in 2005. Scored a superb individual goal in December 2006 despite having played the majority of the game in the centre of defence, proving that he is equally at home as either a defender or his preferred position as striker, and has continued to score regularly ever since. A lengthy knee injury pretty much kept Ashley completely out of proceedings for the latter stage of the 2006/07 season and at one point even looked like it might end his 2007/08 before it began, but he managed to overcome it and began the new season with aplomb netting 5 times in one game on the opening day of the season. One of the strongest aerial squad members, Ashley is another genuine match-winner who has a powerful strike, a superb turn of pace and also plenty of strength and tenacity to boot.
10. Adam Jones
DOB 07/03/84
Otherwise known as Gifted
Breaking into the squad in late 2006, Adam operated as a full-back and right midfielder in 2006 before a brief stint in central midfield against Peterborough in March 2007. A formation shift saw him drift out onto the left flank during the latter stages of that game, and strike up an impressive wing partnership with Joe Meddings – a feat that saw Adam deservedly pick up the MOTM award during that impressive victory. He continued to operate as a winger for the remainder of the season, and will hope to feature even more in said position over the coming year although he can also operate in a central role more than amicably as well. Strong in the tackle and loves to get forward, and will be looking to play a big part over the coming months.
11. Jamie Bosdet
DOB 10/07/90
Otherwise known as Bosnich / Chavaldinho / Wimjim
One of the youngest members of the squad, Jamie volunteered his services in the Community Cup senior competition in 2006 despite having played in the junior competition already that day, and still managed to prove to be one of the players of the competition with a whole host of exciting displays. A natural left-winger with an astounding amount of pace and skill for someone so young, Jamie made himself a necessity in the SA squad with a series of dedicated and enthralling performances down the left flank over the course of the 2006/07 season, even operating as a makeshift striker against the Tarts in 2007, and as an all-action goalkeeper for the MKDSA under-18’s during their explosive victory over Barnet earlier in the season. Jamie is sure to be a regular over the coming campaign, and has also scored several superb goals including the very first SA goal of the 2007/08 campaign, a curling left-footed effort from the edge of the box after some great footwork.
13. Terry Haggis
DOB 19/10/79
Otherwise known as Hagman
An intelligent striker that joined the squad towards the end of the 2006/07 campaign after being drafted in at late notice for the Media Tarts game in April 2007, Terry made his debut in that game as a second half substitute in an impressive display up front. A player that can hold the ball up well and play superbly with his back to goal, he continued to impress during his time on the pitch, displaying a keen eye for goal during training and practice sessions and made an immediate name for himself in the final game of the season against the Stewards at the National Hockey Stadium when he netted a quick-fire brace to send MKDSAFC on their way to the infamous victory. Committed to the squad full-time for the 2007/08 season, and will be looking to impose himself further as the months go on.
14. Martin Knight
DOB 06/10/81
Otherwise known as Knightdon / Knightrider
One of the squad’s former back-up goalkeepers turned his attention to outfield duties against Peterborough in March 2007, and figured in both full-back positions for the remainder of the season. Although still a relative newcomer to outfield 11-a-side action, he acquitted himself extremely well in displays of pace, awareness and energy and failed to put a foot wrong whenever he got in amongst the action. 2007/08 will be an important season for Martin as he focuses solely on outfield duties for the first time in his career, but if his recent performances are anything to go by – including an all-action starting berth on the left wing in the 6-1 victory over BP in August 2007 – then he should have no problems whatsoever. Will more than likely be used as a squad player over the coming season but will always give 100% whenever called upon, and appears to be improving with every outing.
16. Danny Reeb
DOB 21/04/82
Otherwise known as Bon Jovi
Danny committed himself to the MKDSA squad in December 2006, but his first start was short-lived when a 50-50 challenge with Anthony Herlihy left him with an inflamed knee forcing him to limp out of proceedings only 10 minutes into the game. Since overcoming the injury, Danny made himself a regular in the starting XI for the remainder of 2006/07 with some of the bravest defensive displays you’re ever going to see from someone in a Dons shirt and he will be hoping to build on that over the coming year, with signs already showing that he could be set to form a formidable partnership with Callum Moon in the heart of the defence after their all-action display in the 6-1 victory over BP in August 2007, and is also more than capable of slotting into the centre of midfield. Fierce in the tackle, tenacious, great in the air, confident on the ball and seems to not feel any pain whatsoever.
17. Duncan Clapham
DOB 03/06/75
Otherwise known as Dunc
Another to have come through the MKDSAFC trial sessions, Duncan is another member of the new contingent to sign up for the squad for 2007/08 after impressing enough to earn a squad number. A naturally defensive minded player who has operated on the right hand side of a back four during almost his entire Sunday League career, Duncan made his debut as a second half substitute in the 6-1 victory against BP in August 2007 and helped steady the defence during the last 45 as BP desperately searched in vain for a way back into the game. Calm, composed, strong and agile, expect Duncan to feature as a squad player over the coming months as he hopes to impose himself further and build a regular place for himself in the match-day team.
19. Pete Wray
15/01/62
Otherwise known as Sting
The MKDSA’s heroic goalkeeper from the Community Cup semi-final campaign, Pete kept goal again in late 2006 before returning to his favoured 11-a-side position of centre forward for the remainder of the 2006/07 campaign and even managed to score his first SA goal, sending the side towards their 3-1 victory over Peterborough in March. A player who can hold the ball up comfortably and operate well with his back to goal, Pete is an old-style centre forward who is strong in the air and composed on the ball as well as having one of the fiercest shots that the SA squad has to offer. Expect Pete to feature mainly as a squad player over the coming campaign, but you can guarantee that he is a player that will take every opportunity he gets with both hands and will always give 100%.
20. Rich Lancaster
DOB 21/05/77
Otherwise known as mkdon77
Yet another new signing for the 2007/08 season, Rich came to people’s attentions when he turned out for the Over-18’s in an impromptu warm-up game for the MKDSA junior side before their tie against Barnet in early 2007, impressing in the process. Also a former member of The Opposition from The Bubble sessions, management moved quickly to secure his services for the forthcoming campaign after unanimously agreeing that he was a player the squad needed in order to help push things forward. A strong, confident central player who can operate as part of a back four or in the heart of the defence – as well as being more than efficient between the sticks – Rich was one of 6 debutants in the 6-1 victory over BP and displayed a cool, calm composure on the ball, something he will no doubt display in abundance when he features over the coming months.
22. Paul Wright
DOB 29/12/70
Otherwise known as Austin Powers
A player that is more than comfortable on either wing, Paul re-joined the squad for the 2007/08 campaign after having not featured for MKDSAFC for a couple of years. He had previously figured in Media Tarts fixtures and Corporate Cup competitions in the past, and decided to re-commit his footballing abilities to the squad during the 2007/08 trial sessions. Equally at home on either flank or in either full-back position, Paul made his re-debut in a strong performance at right-back in August 2007 and has slotted almost instantly into first team proceedings since. Calm on the ball, strong in the tackle and not afraid to get forward, Paul will be pushing for a starting position over the course of the coming season and is another of the more vocal members of the squad.
24. Andy Hall
DOB 01/04/78
Otherwise known as Slapshot
Andy forced his way into the final squad position for 2007/08 at the final time of asking, but only just – a freak injury sustained in early August 2007 almost completely kept him out of the trial sessions, ruling him out of action for nearly a month. But he did manage to attend the tail end of the trial sessions in late August / early September, impressing enough to earn a place in the squad for the coming year. A central player who appears equally at home in midfield as well as up front, with the ability to drift out into wider positions as well, Andy impressed during his trial and is almost certainly a better player than he gives himself credit for, really impressing again in his debut against Boing in September 2007 with a strong and composed central display.
33. David Wood
DOB 19/09/90
Otherwise known as Poser / Woody
A naturally left-sided player, David was another to attend the trials in August 2007 and was another to impress enough to warrant him a place in the squad for the 2007/08 campaign. A strong and pacey left-back with bundles of energy, David is not afraid to get forward and will use every opportunity to try and assist the attack whenever possible. A player who could also do a job as a makeshift winger, he is another individual who made his debut on the opening day of the 2007/08 season and slotted into proceedings quickly with a cool, calm and composed display in the Dons defence. Proved his commitment to the MKDSAFC cause by opting to train with the squad instead of his regular team, and expect David to play a big part over the coming months.
34. Callum Moon
DOB 25/09/90
Otherwise known as Mr Comets
One of the latest crop of youngsters to emerge from the 2007/08 MKDSAFC trials, Callum installed himself as an immediate favourite for squad inclusion after the very first trial session with a comfortable, battling and confident display in the heart of the defence. A player who has been decorated in the local leagues during his Sunday-League career, particularly with Hemel Comets, Callum made the step up to the senior game in time for the 2007/08 campaign and will be looking to impose himself further as the season progresses. Most at home in the heart of the defence, but is more than capable in any position across the back four as well as operating as a holding midfielder and is a strong, calm and composed footballer who also isn’t afraid to get forward whenever possible. Expect Callum to be a mainstay in the SA squad over the coming season.
Here is a short video of some highlights from our match against Peterborough. Nice one to Alex for making this.
Who I'd like to meet:
Anyone. People interested in football. Other teams who'd like to play us.
If you'd like to play for the MKDSA, you must pass the following criteria..
1) Support MK Dons. 2) Be a member of the Supporters Association. 3) Not be a complete Prick.
yer u lost every1 and what have been the results about 10-1 every time round about ture of them hahaha ... and how far have u gone in black history tourment
A big thanks to everyone that took part yesterday - including MKMA and MK Celts - as well as everyone that came to watch.
In case you're wondering, my head has come up with a nice gash/bruise and is incredibly painful now. That'll teach me to headbutt a Punjabi knee, I guess. :-(
Apparently, we're not getting fined. John Samuel isn't logging the bookings with the IFA, and Paul said that as they were such ludicrous decisions anyway, no fines would be applicable. Sweet!
