| About Mid Life Crisis |
|
Focusing predominantly upon the sounds of the sixties and seventies “Mid Life Crisis” (MLC) welds the raunch of the seventies aussie rock together with classic international tracks of the sixties. From the likes of the Beatles, Kinks, Elvis and the Stones through to AC/DC, Dragon, Chain, Angels and the Mentals, it’s all there for the rock and roll aficionado. The boys also enjoy playing classic songs from Free, Vibrants, Jackie Wilson, Robert Palmer and naturally the Town Criers ……. there really is something in the mix for everyone !
Good old solid rock and roll that gets the dance floor jumpin’ and the glasses bangin’ on the bar is what the band get excited about.
Formed locally in 2002, “MLC” went through a few line up changes and today the six piece outfit comprise , two singers, Barry Smith (Town Criers, Fabs) and Gary Brown (Emanon), guitar Michael Greenwood (Rockrats, Small Torque, Kingpin), bass, Peter Newson (Hollywood, Fusion, Kingpin), Drums Phil English (Emanon), and guitar Frank Briner (Fossilrock)
Originally a lad from Adelaide, BARRY SMITH, made himself known as lead vocalist with the TOWN CRIERS and had national hits with “Everlasting Love”, “Any Old Time”, “Love Me Again” and “Living in a World of Love” (which was also No 3 in Japan). Appearing on all the major music television shows of the day and touring Australia extensively, Barry has etched himself into the history of that truly golden era of Australian rock, the late sixties and early seventies. Barry went on to form local band “the FABS” with great aussie musicians such as Joey Amenta, Peter (Pip) Joyce, Chris Easterby, Randy Bulpin and Peter Gregory in various lineups of the band. After a short siesta he returns to the aussie music scene by joining MLC early this year.
St Kilda born and bred, bass player PETER NEWSON joined MLC after an extended break from the music scene. Peter spent most of the mid seventies playing pub rock and blues in HOLLYWOOD, a hard working original band that enjoyed well earned respect at the time. Playing alongside musos Sam Righi (Blackfeather) Paul Grant (Buster Brown, Mike Rudds Heaters) Frank Chic (Freeway) Paul Pease (Reuben Tice) and John Moon (Buster Brown) has given Peter a wealth of experience and enthusiasm for solid rock and roll.
MIKE GREENWOOD the accomplished lead guitar player has played in bands since he was thirteen being particularly influenced by the Beatles, Hendrix, Jeff Beck and the Stones. Playing in bands at various times with likes of Peter Laffey (Mondo Rock) and Joey Amenta (Uncannys) rounds out the experience and influences at work in his melodic lead breaks. He too enjoys the raunchy rock and roll the band is into but is also moved by the subtlety of songs like Pink Floyd’s “Wish You Were Here”
GARY BROWN (vocals) and PHIL ENGLISH (Drums) from local band “EMANON” join MLC after playing “many a classic hit” in bars and clubs in the southern suburbs of Melbourne. Both being the founding members of MLC they have enjoyed much local success and recognition and bring the “solid rock” vibe to band. GARY really enjoys the audience who are ready to “get down” and who want to party and gets the place rockin’ with his raw vocal energy and enthusiasm, and being the “youngster” of the band, he has the go to belt it out without any let up.
FRANK BRINER a quiet lad originally from Port Melbourne, joined MLC as his first working band after playing infrequent private parties and functions with FOSSILROCK a good time party band. He enjoys the energy of the bands material and plays the occasional solo here and there. Influenced by the great guitar bluesmen he really enjoys the bands bluesier material as well as the early rock of Chuck Berry.
