In March 2007 Modular Lounge sisters Greer and Sophie Turner decided to leave Sydney and trek down the Hume Highway to settle the band in Melbourne, with 200 shows under their belt and their debut album ‘Nightwise’ in tow. With the search on for a new rhythm section, their hunt was rewarded when Benjamin Dartnell on bass joined the band, and more recently; Gustav Lindstom from Sweden on drums.
The band originally formed in Sydney 3 years ago. Since then Modular Lounge have played everywhere from small country town pubs, to performing to over 8000 spectators at The Sydney Entertainment Centre.
‘Nightwise’, produced by Dave ‘Duck’ Barraclough from Mental As Anything and Andrew Beck (whose production credits include Grinspoon and Epicure) presents Modular Lounge’s true style. Their album is due for release in the near future.
The band’s music has been described as everything from catchy pop to indie rock with Greer and Sophie’s melodic harmonies contrasting dramatically to their crunching interweaving guitars. The powerful and driving rhythm section behind them add extra depth and intensity.
The band released their first single ‘Martin Place’ (off ‘Nightwise’) on 16 September 2006. The single was given Release of the Week on iTunes, and the clip was added to Channel V’s playlist where it received strong support from viewers.
With the album awaiting release, Modular Lounge recently played a 40-show national tour covering 5 states and territories. The band have received both a Contemporary Music Touring Grant and Music NSW grant to get the band touring with the likes of Magic Dirt, The Veronicas, Airborne, The Whitlams, Missy Higgins, End of Fashion, Thirsty Merc, Sarah McLeod, theredsunband, 67 Special and The Mess Hall.
Modular Lounge are managed by Black Yak Management and booked by the Harbour/Premier Agency. In March 2007, the band and management made a decision to relocate Modular Lounge to Melbourne, where they are now based.
