| General | Hartlepool United. Why you say? Oh, it’s my hometown team. I first saw them when I was about six, losing 2-0 at home, I think, to Workington Town. Believe me, it rarely got much better than that. I’ve always followed them.
| | Movies | I understand there is a plan to make the next Bond a short, fat, 50-year-old with a Geordie accent and a love of Hartlepool United, in which case I am clearly destined for Hollywood stardom.
| | Heroes | Ernie Phythian was my first hero, having scored about 26 goals in one season. Then in the ’60s it was a no-nonsense centre-half called John Gill. When he retired he worked in an abattoir. Not much difference, to be honest. He was great to watch, in the days when the tackle from behind was compulsory rather than forbidden.
