Fun in the Sun ... a Sonar review

This year was a very special Sonar for mobilee and one that will not be easily forgotten! In celebration of ‘Hi Five! mobilee’ we hosted a four day extravaganza of parties lasting the whole week…

As well as the label showcase at City Hall, we partied out at sea on the mobilee boat and also, in keeping with tradition, held two parties on the rooftop of the Hotel Diagonal in conjunction with guest labels Diynamic and Supplement Facts. It’s certainly taken us a while to recover, but it was 100% worth it.

Thanks to all of you that joined us to party in the sun and make it an epic Sonar 2010. Here is a collection of photographs to look back and also some short clips and movies on the mobilee Vimeo channel that we made. Special thanks to AKG and RA for making everything possible!

Dapayk Solo - Berlin Bedlam

Originally started to enable mobilee records to work with a wider breadth of artists, Leena records has become a powerful entity, with an ever growing variety of releases. Sometimes featuring one-off projects, it's a platform whereby Anja Schneider and Ralf Kollmann can promote music from other producers who are acquainted with the label and whose sounds and talent they admire. Dapayk Solo (Niklas Worgt) is one of said artists, but he is certainly no stranger to the label after his two impressive remixes of Pan-Pot's ‘Confronted' on mobilee at the end of last year.

Leena017 witnesses Dapayk Solo in full bloom and with space to breathe. A-Side “Berlin Bedlam” builds up layers upon layers of synths, paving the way for a break out of melodic charms that arrive. It's a cinematic sound scape that could be played at any number of stages over the course of the night. B-Side “Fawlty” is equally as melodic, but certainly fulfills the role of the calm after the storm. Minimal, but with musical flare, it's the perfect companion. The digital exclusive “Motolee” is calm and hypnotic at first, but then some surprisingly deep and powerful synths arrive to take over….as you can hear, Leena is full of surprises!

Hi Five mobilee! Part 2

Part 2 of the ‘Hi Five mobilee!’ compilation series is quite a contrast to its predecessor with more hip swingin' housey vibes. Moon Harbour's Daniel Stefanik first appeared on mobilee at the very early stages of the label, with his track "The Bells" featured on the limited edition add-on release to Pan-Pot's 'Obscenity' EP. Back then his style was associated with old school Chicago and Detroit sounds, and "Tripiando Los Colores" shows that he's still continuing to refine his style. Meanwhile Marcin Czubala brings us „Spinning The Roulette“, with playful percussion and a hypnotic groove, offering guaranteed fun on a plate.

Rodriguez Jr’s debut on mobilee records this year, „Princess Guacamole“, caused quite a stir and now he’s back with a punching bass line track, „La Cavalcade“, whilst Dan Curtin is up for „Things That Go Funk“ and plays around with a diverse range of sounds, including some classic old-school piano chords. Last but not least, long time friends and studio partners, Anja Schneider and Lee Van Dowski, present „Shinkansen“, an ambient techno track that simultaneously drifts and builds...enjoy!

Hi Five mobilee! Part 1

Hi Five mobilee! This summer we are not just celebrating five successful years of mobilee records, but also the fact that we are still loving what we do and there is a lot more to come! To mark the occasion with something special, we are organising a world tour across all continents, with a three day Sonar extravaganza to get the ball rolling. We are also releasing a compilation featuring 16 exclusive tracks from mobilee artists and friends and to accompany the album, there is a three part 250 copies limited edition vinyl series with selected tracks.

To make the occasion even more special, Part 1 of the vinyl series kick-starts the party with a huge “Happy Birthday” bomb from label ravers Pan-Pot. After the success of their “Confronted” release last year, it’s their first and long-awaited reappearance on mobilee in 2010 and it’s not for the faint hearted. It comes packed with bass, energy, euphoric synths, big builds and even bigger drops! The second track on this collector’s item must- have, “Attendance”, comes from the mobilee’s other dangerous duo Exercise One. Minimal, dark, hypnotic and moody, it’s the perfect compliment to the flip side … enjoy!

RODRIGUEZ JR. - PRINCESS GUACAMOLE

A highly reputable artist with an equally impressive history as a producer, Rodriguez Jr is a prominent member of the Leena music catalogue. His debut on the imprint “Rubbo Swingo” received rave reviews as did his return a year later for Leena’s 11th release, “Kids of Hula”. 2010 has already witnessed big things from the Belgium based producer, such as “Jerri Call” with Alex Kid on NRK records as well as a handful of remixes including one for Dominik Eulberg on Traum records and Holger Zilske on Playhouse.

MOBILEE TOUCH MIX

Mobilee Records is excited to announce the release of their new iPhone application, Mobilee Touch Mix, which allows fans to mix, DJ, and perform releases from the label on the iPhone and iPod Touch.
