About me:

....
About me Julie Frith: I love ART! I also love music! I am a northern California artist originally from Champaign-Urbana IL. Growing up playing violin since age 7, I didn't realize what people kept telling me. They told me "You are a talented artist". My parents (Barbara and Donald Frith) are (were, My Mom passed away in 2007) both professional artists (ceramics, jewelry, sculpture, paintings and modern design) ...they both taught me everything about art. I went to college early in high school at Champaign-Urbana, IL majoring in art and music, where I met brainiac musician (husband) Brian Ladd. We decided both to move to Eureka, CA to get out of the extreme weather (too hot and too cold) of Illinois. Early 80's we started up a band called the Psyclones, we played live, made records and CDs...and started the first underground cassette tape label called Ladd-Frith. Then for years, I got art jobs doing window displays and visual merchandising for big department stores and large malls. Early 90's playing around with left over foamcor, junk plastic scraps and wire, I started balancing - making little stabiles and mobiles. I always loved Calder's work ever sinceI was very young, I saw some of his art in museums, books and airports around the world. I was fascinated with balance, modern mobiles, learning art every which way and how. I also liked jewelry making, bending wire, making beads of plastics, cutting, sanding and buffing to a shine...a challenge I just had to learn. Selling a few mobiles on Ebay, then making my own website...the positive answers kept coming in...buyers telling me they like what I do, "Keep it up!". As years went by, I got better and better with my mobile making skills. Proud of my successes and achievements...my mobiles and stabiles have sold to thousands of private home owners, and businesses all over the world, furniture/ art galleries, libraries, hospitals, restaurants, shown on TV, published in magazines, book covers and are even in many science museums. My love for modern architecture and clean design has grown, being a big part of my life. If you are into Alexander Calder (like I am) or Kandinsky, Miro, Vasarely, Dali, M.C.Etcher, Piccaso, Eames, Miller, Knoll, Van der Rohe, Saarinen, Bauhaus, F.L.Wright, Eichler homes, Frank Gehry, the prefab Lustron (which I grew up in!) then you have to see my work.
