Getting five creative individuals to be all on the same page is no easy task, but the MoBillionaireZ are far from your average group. Representing Mobile, Alabama, the hip-hop quintet epitomizes the word “teamwork.” Each of the five members does his part to help make this musical machine run smoothly on their quest for rap stardom and making billions. Mr. Moore is the brains of the outfit, taking care of business behind the mic, the desk and occasionally the keyboard. Wayne-Lo serves as the group’s creative force, penning high-energy bars and bringing synergy to their hooks. Then there’s Deuce, the lyrical assassin that rips through tracks like a seasoned veteran. The musical backbone, of course, is none other than in-house beatmaker Baby-T, who handles a bulk of the group’s hypnotic production. Finally, there’s the secret weapon known as B.A.M., aka Bad Ass Man, a triple threat that can rap, produce and sing. Collectively known as the MoBillionaireZ, these Southern stunners are on their way to becoming hip-hop’s newest starting five. But it takes time to build up this kind of team chemistry.
All fans of hip-hop from an early age, the MoBillionaireZ began with just Mr. Moore and Wayne-Lo putting it down in a homemade studio. While the pair kept crankin’ out a steady flow of bangers, neighborhood friend and then-aspiring producer Baby-T would often sit in on their sessions and try to contribute tracks. Moore and Wayne initially ignored the youngster’s requests to play his tracks for them until they finally gave in and were immediately blown away by the high quality of his infectious rhythms. From that point on Baby-T was welcomed into the fold and quickly became one of Alabama’s best beatmakers. Deuce, the youngest of the MoBillionaireZ, shares a similar story. Being Moore’s first cousin, he was always hanging around the guys in the studio but never made his rap dreams known. That was until Moore overheard Deuce freestyling one day and helped develop the young MC’s latent talents. Overnight, Deuce went from being a quiet kid in the background to a rising hip-hop star in the limelight. The fifth and final piece of the puzzle actually came from outside Alabama. Originally from California, B.A.M. moved to Mobile in 2005 and immediately made a name for himself as a capable musician and performer. The out-of-towner caused so much buzz in Mob Town (as some locals affectionately refer to Mobile), in fact, that Moore actually sought him out to be a part of the MoBillionaireZ movement. B.A.M. had heard they were the tightest crew around, so joining forces was a no brainer. Now five members strong, the MoBillionaireZ began their industry takeover.
With B.A.M. and Baby-T primarily handling the beats, the MoB starting churning out a plethora of hot tracks and earned their stripes opening up shows for artists like Jim Jones, Rich Boy, DJ Unk, Crime Mob and Mr. Bigg in 2006. That same year they entered the Optimistic Entertainment Talent Search competition and beat out over 40 different groups/artists for the grand prize, which was an exclusive recording contract. While most artists would have jumped at the offer, the MoBillionaireZ passed because they felt it wasn’t the right look for them and went with indie powerhouse, Handz Up Muzic, instead. Continuing to grind throughout 2007, they scored hits of their own, like “Let Me See Ya Stunt,” “Ghetto” and “Na Woof,” that made their way onto local airwaves. Their biggest record, however, came in 2008TK with the release of “Strike A Pose,” featuring Fabo of D4L. The crunk club cut exemplifies the MoBillionaireZ’s penchant for catchy hooks, swagger-filled lyrics and bumpin’ beats. It wasn’t long before the MoB caught the ear of the legendary DJ Smallz, who agreed to host their first official Southern Smoke mixtape, 2 Deep, Vol. 1.
Already certified by the streets, the MoBillionaireZ are set to make the jump from the minor league to the major league with their debut LP, Rookiez Of Da Year. Powered by club-friendly tracks like “On E” and their Mannie Fresh-produced single “Shake It Fast,” the album will catapult the MoB and their city into the spotlight. Much like other notable super groups before them, like Wu-Tang Clan and the Hot Boyz, the MoBillionaireZ are destined to transform from rap rookies to hall of famers in no time.
