Being Black in the Work Place:
They take my kindness for weakness.
They take my silence for speechless.
They consider my uniqueness strange.
They call my language slang.
They see my confidence as conceit.
They see my mistakes as defeat.
They consider my success accidental.
They minimize my intelligence to "potential".
My questions mean "I'm unaware".
My advancement is somehow unfair.
Any praise is preferential treatment.
To voice concern is discontentment.
If I stand up for myself, I'm too defensive.
If I don't trust them, I'm too apprehensive.
I'm defiant! if I separate.
I'm fake if I assimilate.
Yet, constantly I am faced with work place hate.
My character is constantly under attack.
Pride for my race makes me, "TOO BLACK".
Yet, I can only be me. And, who am I you might ask?
I am that Strong Black Person... Who stands on the backs of my ancestor's achievements, with an erect spine pointing to the stars with pride, dignity and respect which lets the work place in America know,
that I not only possess the ability to play by the rules, but I can make them as well!

First and foremost, please let me recognize that Jesus Christ is my LORD and SAVIOR…without HIM, I would be nothing…All Praise, Honor and Glory are due to HIM and HIM ALONE…So much has happened in my Blessed-Life that I’m simply at a “loss for words.” I truly appreciate every aspect of this short time on Earth we call “Life.” I live this “Life” to the fullest each day and try my best to walk the “Narrow Path”…the road “Less Traveled”…the “Righteous Way” of living…I’ve learned that doing the right thing isn’t always easy, matter-a-fact, its probably the Hardest thing TO DO…which is why so few people actually DO IT. In everything, both Good & Bad, Happy & Sad, Gains & Losses…All Success, Struggles and Failures in this life SHAPE US into what we are supposed to be…I see the GOOD in everything & everyone but my KINDNESS can be mistaken for WEAKNESS…My “UNIQUENESS” TAKEN-FOR-GRANTED and my “POWER” never fully realized until it is FAR-TOO-LATE. I believe in LOVE, both Earthly and Heavenly…It is still true that people have a hard time believing all that they see when they look at me, but I must reiterate that I’m simply a HUMAN BEING. Is it so hard to understand that I don’t SLEEP AROUND or go out to HIT SOMETHING? Can a person graduate with a 4.0 and be part of a National Championship Football & Track Team? If I’m at the Club, Dancing Crazy with a Hair-Cut no-one has and a T-Shirt no one has seen…does that mean I’m “Faded?”
