Modern Clichés are Phil Warson (Vocals/Guitar), Ollie Brennan (Bass), and Andrew Payne (Drums). Still just pushing 21, the band have spent the last couple of years plying their trade and holding their own alongside the likes of Joe Lean and The Jing Jang Jong, Reverend and The Makers, and Scroobius Pip, amongst others.
They emerged on Crash Records in 2008, proceeding to play a headline show at Oxford’s O2 Academy, with numerous others across London and the South-East, as well as appearing at SoundsLive at the NEC. 2009 spawned a critically-praised double A-side: ‘rousing guitar anthem’ ‘You Got To Tell Me’, and the ‘Spectoresque’ ‘The Same Place’, with notable performances on Balcony TV and to a star-studded audience at London’s Café de Paris, as well as reaching the semi-finals of the UK’s Surface Unsigned competition.
Their next single ‘Your Lucky Numbers’ offers another facet of their sound with its upfront production, earthy drums and bass, and sprawling guitars – stylish retro-pop with a sharp modern bite. Distinguished London dates are confirmed at Monto Water Rats and PUNK, with more gigs to be announced. They have a vastly acclaimed live set with ‘a natural ease on stage’, affirming that ‘trios play the best music’, recalling the excitement of bands like The Jam whilst producing a highly fresh, yet fashionable, sound.
Double A-side You Got To Tell Me/The Same Place out now on Crash Records and Universal Digital! Buy from iTunes, Napster, Amazon and all the other normal places.....
As you may or may not be aware SoundARC hold a charity gig every year at Club 85 in Hitchin in aid of the Garden House Hospice in Letchworth, and this year we are going to try something a little different from previous years.
This year we are going to take over the club and host 37 acts in one weekend putting full bands upstairs and acoustic acts downstairs in an event that we are calling ARCfest!
It all starts on Friday 4th December at 7pm and then continues on through Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th from 12pm-11pm
As well as raising money for the Garden House Hospice in Letchworth, ARCfest will showcase all the different genres of bands that we at SoundARC have come across over the last 4 and a half years. Over this weekend a lot of the acts that you will see don’t get a chance to play a great local venue like Club 85, So as well as hearing new music you will see all manors of genres and styles from acoustic - Metal - Indie - Rock - Punk - Electro - Ska - Funk - Hip Hop/Rap - Alternative - Rhythm & Blues - Reggae - Grunge and loads more that I cant remember!
