Many bands reach the level of writing brilliant songs, but few achieve the skill of relating to the masses. Modern Subject has done just that. With raw, emotional energy, this Folk-rock/Brit-pop-infused sextet brings a level of poetry and emotion that hasn’t been seen on the stage in a very long time. Stewart’s voice, distinctly influenced by the likes of Jeff Buckley and Freddie Mercury, soars well over the melodic guitar lines and smooth piano of Boris and the Parsons brothers. This music is uncommonly deep and poetic, yet not lacking power, as Sheffer and Melham bring home a rhythm section that suggests backgrounds in much more than the genre they currently reside. Proving that no one is immune to pain, Modern Subject’s past relationships, band-member breakups and life’s journeys are all on display in the songs that they sing and the shows they perform. Having shared the stage with such acts as Eve 6, Louis XIV, and Five for Fighting, the group has had more than a taste of the West Coast music industry. All the members have been in touring acts before this current project, bringing to the table a level of musicianship and road-savvy that is sorely lacking in acts today. Boasting small beginnings in a local southern California coffee shop, Modern Subject has blown up, with an OC and LA following that frequently numbers in the hundreds. In their three-year history, Modern Subject has produced two self-funded albums, and worked with such industry producers and engineers as Elliot Richardson and Scott Silleta. Keeping up a packed tour schedule, which includes regularly stopping by the bars and clubs that got them their start, Modern Subject continues to produce music that not only makes you think, but forces you to feel…

Hello, I just wanted to say I really enjoy your new album, even though it's not really that new, but I guess I hadn't looked at your page in a while. I used to listen to "Songs For The Drowning" all the time before I lost all of my music like a year or two ago. haha. anyway. Just wanted to let you know that I downloaded your new-er album and I am listening to it right now, I've always found the vocalist of your band very calming. So thank you for relaxing me I suppose. : )
ps.) I really think you should do a show in Iowa sometime in the future. and I also think you should sell your music instead of giving it away for free, maybe you do sell it? I don't know. I couldn't find it on itunes : P but I would definitely buy it if you didn't have it available for free. : )
