Everything we've ever heard and loved. The Velvet Underground, Otis Redding, The Sonics, The Who, Holly Golightly, The White Stripes, Alice Cooper, Nancy Sinatra, The Gories, Sam Cooke, The Stooges, The Kinks, The Shangri-Las, The Rolling Stones, the Damned, 1619 Broadway and Buddy Holly among others.
Friends from birth, Nyssa, Harry and Zack have always played together. Whether raising hell at the neighbourhood dancehall, duking it out with the local gang of toughs or cutting class to play cards and throw rocks through glass windows, they've done everything together. They've only ever been apart from each other in their musical endeavours. The Brothers Burgess, Harry and Zack, dabbled in punk rock, whilst Nyssa cut her teeth on an acoustic guitar and simple, heartfelt songs.
Though their separate ventures were successful in their own right, for reasons unknown, something never felt quite right. Then one day, while skipping church to go to the record shoppe, they crossed paths with another boy, who was standing beneath a ladder. They couldn't help but notice what he carried with him; a black cat was under his arm, and a guitar was slung across his back. In an instant, the three chums knew that they had met a fellow rabble-rouser in young Matthew. With their numbers now swelled to four, the gang slinked off to the record shoppe, where they discovered their serendipitous affinity for the same music.
With unbridled excitement and seam bursting jubilation, the newly minted Superstitions picked up their respective instruments, and set to work. Within days they had written enough material to last them two decades. Having finished writing a careers' worth of material, the Superstitions set about playing for audiences throughout the city. Their blend of garage, girl group, 50's rock & roll and soul brought audiences to their feet, and their peers to their knees. The Superstitions are a group with the kind of undeniable chemistry that not even your curmudgeonly high school science teacher could find fault with. They'll have you breaking your mother's back with abandon, walking under ladders without fear, smashing mirrors with glee and taking in lung-fulls of ghoulish cemetery air without a care for your welfare.
Hi Nyssa, not sure if it's a coincidence that you we got added by you, but you sold me a pair of pants the other day! Kev and I are planning on coming out on the 18th, love the music!
The Garage is happy that your around, and so is Powerpop. I know that was the most innane statement ever, but fuck it. You guys a really good, and you don't bug me. That's really rare. Rob Mog
Great review of the Tattoo Rock Parlour show in Now Magazine, 'Toronto's Modern Superstitions may soon hit pay dirt. By tying together Motown hooks, punk bass lines, pyschedelic undertones and surf-rock guitar solos, they've found their groove'
Very good show at the Horseshoe last night, it'd been such a long time since we'd seen you guys live - and it was definitely a grea tset of real rock 'n' roll from you.
That was a great set at The Horseshoe. When it comes to good old-fashioned rock and roll, simplicity is the best approach, delivering timeless bits of 60’s-esque garage-pop soaked with bursts of energy and brisk hooks. Offering sing-along choruses, crisp guitar-jangle, and dreamily seductive vocals, the music resonates with a surprising catchiness of a vinyl record whirling in a vintage jukebox. The Superstitions manage to take classic genres and make it sound refreshing and relevant.
Okay people, seriously...after all the work I've done for you, don't you think I deserve to be on your top friends? I mean, really...what has that Fabienne biotch done for you lately?

Nice review of the No Shame set at Sneaky Dee's in this issue of Now Magazine, 'Local teenage garage rockers the Superstitions, who opened the night, sound like a bluesier Debbie Harry singing over a more rock ’n’ roll version of the Jam'
Excellent CMW review on Exclaim online for April 'The crowd responded well to the quartet's pop rock sound and singer Nyssa Rosaleen's powerful voice. And what is there to dislike? The songs are simple and the band know their way around a hook. Though they tread well-worn territory — their brand of garage-y rock peaked with the Posies — when done well live it's hard for even the most hardened music snob to have a bad night'
