Born and raised in the Boston suburb of Arlington (A-town),
Norman Magnuson aka Modi, began his musical aspiration as a youngster singing in church choir and playing the violin. In high school he homed his vocal skills as a member of several professional level choirs. During this adolescent period he developed a passion and skill set for contemporary "rock music" as the front man for the now defunct group No Compliance. At about this same time he purchased a set of Turntables and began to fall in love with the sounds of hip-hop and electronic music. He pursued self-taught production aided by several gear investments. After high school Norm attended Ithaca College for two years studying audio production and taking piano and music theory lessons. Frustrated with the limitations of Ithaca's music program he transferred to Berklee College of Music in the fall of 2001 to study under the guidelines of Berklee's Music Synthesis program. It is during his time at Berklee that Norman began to mature as a performance and production artist. He was able to perform with such industry names as Grand Master Flash, Rob Swift, LTJ Bukem, Mathematics, and Steven Tyler. While at Berklee Modi was able to study under the guidance of Dr. Richard Boulenger (the Csound ad Convolution guru), Dr. Jeff Baust and vocally under Jeff Ramsey. He has built a home studio in which he spends countless hours perfecting his craft. Modi has also developed a penchant for professional sound design work and audio for film. He scored Company Ones 2004 Production of Jesus Hopped the A-train, collaborated on various projects for The Lodge NYC with Brandon Carroll and with Multi Media artist and performer Zebbler. He has worked for Korg USA, Sonic Distribtion/ SE Microphones and currently for Google NYC. Modi now lives in Brooklyn New York where he is pursuing his professional career and hopes to live a well rounded and fulfilling existence.
