   About Hywel
My name is Hywel and I'm a British musician. I play guitar, bass and a little mandolin too. I try and sing but it does not sound very good. I have been playing guitar for 20 years and have amassed quite a collection of guitars and equipment. I try and thin down the collection from time to time to make room but I just end up buying more stuff. As you can tell from the tunes I've posted I play many different kinds of music from Space Doom Metal to traditional Irish tunes. I'm currently on a mandolin mission and will be putting down the guitar for a bit and trying to get up to speed on the mandolin.
I am recently married to Jenni and I live in South Wales, I don't drink alcohol, I do smoke and I don't take recreational drugs. I spend most of my time at home reading, watching tv, cooking or using the computer. I'm quite boring really but it makes me happy.
I'm trying to learn to play the mandolin. I have a really nice one made by Moon Guitars in Glasgow. I'm starting lessons soon and I hope to improve. I'd like to meet other mandolin players of any style or tradition. I'm trying to learn some traditional Irish tunes right now.

Hey Hywel,

I wanted to thank you for accepting my friendship request. Hope you don't mind a total stranger contacting you, but not many people know about my music, so I'm trying to find ways to introduce it to them. I grew up in the Delta regions of the USA, but now permanently reside in Wales - so my music has a bit of a Blues/Alt-Country/Americana/Rock with a dash of Celtic kind of sound to it (I think!).

I do appreciate you taking the time to listen... and thanks again for being my friend!!

TTYL. Hope you're having a splendid weekend!

Graciously,

Leigh :-)

Like the stuff you are doing - stay in touch. Gigs are filtering through for "Background Noise" and we hope to be doing some soon with "The Generators" - Val has had a few contacts that sound promising. Hope you had a great christmas and have a very rocking new year.
Cheers,

I've listened to your new tune Whiskey in the jar and the singing as you say sucks but the guitar playing is quite good.

Welcome to the Hawkwind Myspace Network, feel free to spread the word
We are thinking of holding a mini indoor Hawkfest - "Hawkfestette" probably around Jan/Feb and probably in Amsterdam....
What we need to gauge, is just how much interest there would be in this idea from you, the fans.
Tickets would be around £99 for the weekend and we are happy to take pre orders and any constructive suggestions about choice of venue, city, time of year etc……
Pre order tickets at
hawkfestette@hawkwind.com
and if there is enough interest, we will make it happen…
We want to make this your festival, so send your suggestions and comments as soon as possible….to

Hey - good news! Mandolin has been (nearly) fixed! helen had a look at it, adjusted the bridge and the only dodgy note is the E-string when you play the A. Good enough for me!
Rachel

May 18 2007 9:27 AM

Not given up on it - it just needs some TLC i think! If the fret board is very small is that why I can't play it very well...?! (hoping that will be my valid excuse! Not really - i have been practising a bit and am gradually getting better. i'm a good girl!) Maybe when I can play properly i'll invest in a mandolin of my own.
Rachel

May 18 2007 6:50 AM

Yeah! and then I bit the head off a chicken and trashed a hotel room!

No, Invocal really aren't rock and roll enough for that kind of behaviour, are they?!

The "action" seems to have gone - doesn't play in tune (and no, it's not just my bad playing!)
