Moe's Cafe is a person named Kenny, who was nicknamed "Moe" some years ago, and recently created a myspace page in order to serve up some sample recordings of his music to have available for the purposes of networking with other musicians. So "Moe's Cafe" seemed an appropriate name for the page.
Kenny Stanger is a 32 year old guitarist, currently living in Berlin, Germany. Born in New York state a couple of hours north of NYC, he has lived most of his life on Long Island, in Queens, or in Brooklyn, with the exception of the 4 years he spent at the University of Maryland where he earned a BA in psychology ('97). In 2003, he earned a 2nd BA in Music at Stony Brook University in Stony Brook, NY.
Kenny has composed and performed music in a variety of genres, including jazz, classical (both traditional and contemporary), rock, pop, electronic/computer, and musical theatre, and is particularly drawn to repetition, minimalism, and free improvisation.
The music currently on this page was recorded on 10-27-07 (hence it's name). It was entirely improvised and thus contains no pre-written material. It appears here nearly exactly as it sounded when it was recorded live, with the exception of a few spots where Audacity (free, open source editing software) was used to edit out or obscure some really nasty sounding moments, and break it into 4 parts to meet myspace standards.
This recording is one of a series of recordings made over the last month, each titled by the date of the recording and each averaging about an hour in length.

On friday 5.September Albert Plank from Regensburg who also is the initiator of the das kleine field recordings festival in the Bavarian town will come to Berlin to present another set with recordings from his part of the world that has been a cul de sac for so many cold war years.
On this special evening he will be joined by Egyptian sound artist Mahmoud Refat, who will give you a chance to listen to Cairo.
Extra evening with Albert Plank and Mahmoud Refat hosted by take a dive Galerie "Takeadive" Solmsstrasse 19 10961 Berlin Kreuzberg U-Bahnhaltestelle: Mehringdamm oder Gneisenaustrasse starts 20. 30 sharp! really
What to expect? For sure it won't be a regular evening of field recordings: This evening will focus on the imitation of nature. And nature is the great reservoir of sounds. Scholars are talking about caves and the pictogrammes on the walls: deer and buffles, hunting and dancing. ..Caves with resonances that would carry the sounds into nature.
Did they imitate those sounds at those times? Would they have done it for artistic reasons?
