Manteka O Folk Ensemble, or MOFOE for short, performs Afro-Caribbean Urbano dance music.
The cultural diversity of band members is reflected in the different styles that we play: Salve and Palo from the Dominican Rep.;Bomba and Plena from Puerto Rico; Rumba, Bembe, and Guiro from Cuba, all infused with southern spirituals and New Orleans juju jazz. We do not yet have any Morris dancing, although our English bassist informs us that is a good thing.
We perform in a variety of environments such as clubs, festivals, universities, private ceremonies and other joyous occasions. We also do workshops and extensive programing and research on Afro-Caribbean music and dance. If you are interested in booking us then please be in touch.
Ashe.
