"THE UNNAMEABLE" - Live in 2007!
( second ever live performance )
one of these days... has arrived.
It couldn’t have happened to two better blokes. There they were, sitting at the Rose & Crown on the Gold Coast of Queensland (Australia), wondering whether or not to have another booze, when one says to the other: “You know that song you played before? Fucken … you know! Um, the one that goes “fuck me hard and fuck me now’? Yeah, THAT one! She’s a cracker! Let’s put a band together!
It took a while, but it eventually happened. Those two blokes were Paul ‘Darth Gally’ Galagher and Colonel John Slattery, both having an appreciation for guitar-based madness, but not necessarily of the same genre pool. After a series of tank rangents, including a move to Melbourne by the Colonel, it seemed oddly appropriate to both of them that at some point they would reunite to create what was to eventually become the inimitable MofoIsDead sound.
The early days were interesting. MP3s being sent via email were how the Mofo got its feet moving. It were almost alive … but it also were dead.
After enlisting the enigmatic Queezy Beats on drums, the first gig happened in February 2007. The second was in May of the same year, at which point P decided to jump ship and head to merry old England to escape the fucking monotonous indifference of living on the Gold Coast.
To cut a long story short, Colonel joined P in London in May 2008 only to find the local drummer wasn’t keen on the task of turning up to gigs. So it was a painful search and a long wait until the decision was made to recruit session drummers to assist in creating, with the able assistance of Damien “Omenators” Dean, what would become the basic tracks for the debut MofoIsDead opus.
Fast forward to 2009 – tracks had been laid across two continents, a trip to Melbourne for engineering duties by P gathering some red hot bass and vocal tracks, further refinement being accomplished at the P-Cave on the Gold Coast – the recording of the new album was a labour of love the like of which is rarely seen. Finally a trip to Studios 301 in Sydney was arranged - to ‘sprinkle the angel dust’ as it were - and provide us with the record you are now able to experience with your own ears.
Listen and enjoy, people. We worked bloody hard to get it to you, and we’re glad we did. 2010 is sure to bring many surprises and we’re glad y’all are able to come along for the ride.
MofoIsDead, November 2009.
put a MofoIsDead banner on your page. You know it makes sense.
