  • Bio

The Icelandic band Mógil has been playing together for the last 5 years. The members are Heiða Árnadóttir vocals, Hilmar Jensson guitar , Joachim Badenhorst clarinet, Kristín Þóra Haraldsdóttir viola and Eiríkur Orri Ólafsson trompet. Mógil has played at many festivals e.g. WOMEX World festival, Reykjavík Jazz Festival and Iceland Airwaves and and has toured a few times around in Belgium, Holland and Iceland. In the fall of 2008 Mógil recorded their CD Ró, which was released by Radical Duke. The CD Ró got excellent reviews and was nominated for the Icelandic Music Awards in 2008. On a sunny summer day in Iceland, Mógil gathered in a beautiful studio by the sea surrounded by seals, whales and seagulls and recorded their CD Í stillunni hljómar (e. In the Stillness it sounds). Í stillunni hljómar was released in March 2011. The CDs have gotten some great reviews and here are a few quotes: "De beste Belgische release van het moment" Humo - Belgium "Other good times included the spindly chamber-folk tensions of Mógil! Rolling Stone senior writer David Fricke "Music for a new Iceland, Borderless genius" MBL - Iceland "I recommend Ró for listeners that are interested in looking beyond the horizon" Folk Rodels - Belgium The music floats in a gauzy haze with the vocals delivered in a rich, soprano that has a folk-based earthiness, contrasting with the very contemporary accompaniment. This not only gives the music a healthy tension but also a timeless feel The New York City Jazz record - NYC "Music that touches the soul" The silent ballet - NYC "Ró klinkt warm en avontuurlijk" De Morgen - Belgium " The music is intelligent and creative, highly recommended!" Psychedelic folk - NYC " Ró is exquisite from the beginning to the end" Bruce Lee Gallanter, Downtown Music Gallery - NYC
