Mog Rocket is a progressive rock band based in Atlanta GA. Intertwining heavy riffs and dark overtones with softer melodic interludes, this trio provides a vast and dynamic canvas to paint its sinister vision. Drawing influence from their predecessors of the early 1970’s, Mog Rocket fuses classic sounds with near algebraic compositions in a style that is entirely their own.
Mog Rocket is comprised of guitarist/vocalist/founder Jonathan Beckner, bassist/vocalist Levi Boz White and Drummer Lee Brownlow. Jonathan has a Bachelors of Music from Georgia State University studying under Dave Frackenpohl (jazz guitar) and Dr. Robert S. Thompson (Ambient Composer, music technology professor). Jonathan’s background as both a musician and audio engineer/producer brings a unique sonic and organizational perspective to the music. Levi is a student at the Atlanta Institute of Music and a Savannah College of Art and Design alumni. He provides a distinct brand of songwriting and bass playing, serving as the conduit between rhythm and melody. Lee is a graduate of the College of Charleston. He lives a double life as an ironworker by day and hard rocking drummer by night. His bombastic groove forged out of the fires of hell.
Sharing the stage with regional, like-minded acts The Seventh Ring of Saturn, Rev Rebel, and Mata Luna, their shows provide a mixture of well-orchestrated rock and crunching improvisation. Some major influences include King Crimson, Mars Volta, Pink Floyd, The Raconteurs, Yes, Frank Zappa, Rush, Jeff Beck, etc... Melodic Revolution Records dubs the music, “Excellent prog,” and David Ragsdale (Kansas) calls the music “. . . very disturbing.” Mog Rocket is currently recording their debut album at Real 2 Reel Studios in Jonesboro, GA and booking shows in support of their Summer 2009 release.
