About me: Mohandas K. Gandhi studied law in England, then spent 20 years defending the rights of immigrants in South Africa. In 1914 he returned to India and became the leader of the Indian National Congress. Gandhi urged non-violence and civil disobedience as a means to gain independence from Great Britain, with public acts of defiance that landed him in jail several times. In 1947 he participated in the postwar negotiations that led to Indian independence. He was shot to death by a Hindu fanatic in 1948
Mohandas Gandhi was born on October 2,1869, at Porbandar, on the western coast of India. His grandfather Uttamchand Gandhi and father Karamchand Gandhi occupied the high office of the diwan (Chief Minister) of Porbandar. To be Diwan of one of the princely states was no sinecure. Porbandar was one of some three hundred native states in western India which were ruled by princes whom the accident of birth and the support of the British kept on the throne. To steer ones course safely between wayward Indian princes, the overbearing British Political Agent of the suzerain power and the long-suffering subjects required a high degree of patience, diplomatic skill and commonsense. Both Uttamchand and Karamchand were good administrators. But they were also upright and honourable men. Loyal to their masters, they did not flinch from offering unpalatable advice. They paid the price for the courage of their convictions. Uttamchand Gandhi had his house besieged and shelled by the rulers troops and had to flee the State; his son Karamchand also preferred to leave Porbandar, rather than compromise with his principles
Karamchand Gandhi was, in the words of his son, "a lover of his clan, truthful, brave, generous." The strongest formative influence on young Mohandas, however, was that of his mother Putlibai. She was a capable woman who made herself felt in court circles through her friendship with the ladies of the palace, but her chief interest was in the home. When there was sickness in the family, she wore herself out in days and nights of nursing. She had little of the weaknesses, common to women of her age and class, for finery or jewellery. Her life was an endless chain of fasts and vows through which her frail frame seemed to be borne only by the strength of her faith. The children clung to her as she divided her day between the home and the temple. Her fasts and vows puzzled and fascinated them. She was not versed in the scriptures; indeed except for a smattering of Gujarati, she was practically unlettered. But her abounding love, her endless austerities and her iron will, left a permanent impression upon Mohandas, her youngest son. The image of woman he imbibed from his mother was one of love and sacrifice. Something of her maternal love he came to possess himself, and as he grew, it flowed out in an ever-increasing measure, bursting the bonds of family and community, until it embraced the whole of humanity. To his mother, he owed not only a passion for nursing which later made him wash lepers sores in his ashram, but also an inspiration for his techniques of appealing to the heart through self-suffering a technique which wives and mothers have practised from time immemorial
Young Mohandas school career was undistinguished. He did not shine in the classroom or in the playground. Quiet, shy and retiring, he was tongue-tied in company. He did not mind being rated as a mediocre student, but he was exceedingly jealous of his reputation. He was proud of the fact that he had never told a lie to his teachers or classmates; the slightest aspersion on his character drew his tears. Like most growing children he passed through a rebellious phase, but contrary to the impression fostered by his autobiography, Gandhis adolescence was no stormier than that of many of his contemporaries. Adventures into the forbidden land of meat-eating and smoking and petty pilfering were, and are not uncommon among boys of his age. What was extraordinary was the way his adventures ended. In every case when he had gone astray, he posed for himself a problem for which he sought a solution by framing a proposition in moral algebra. Never again was his promise to himself after each escapade. And he kept the promise
Reporter: "What do you think about western civilization?" Gandhi: "I think it would be a good idea."
In life we should never lose hope, It's an inner strength that helps us cope, With the trials life can throw our way, Hope keeps us strong to fight another day.
Never feel that all hope is lost, Await the outcome before counting the cost. With positive thinking or little imagination, Hope can free us from all limitation.
Got things on your mind or results pending, At times the hardship can seem never ending, Hope is the remedy for negativity and doubt, And the everyday problems we worry about.
Hope is a precious gift no one can take away, A commodity that's rare in society today. May you find the knowledge or means, And courage to fulfil your hopes and dreams.

"We are all human beings. Fundamentally, we are the same. Since encouragement and consideration, offered from one human to another, are the keys to forming heartfelt bonds among people, transcending social, generatitional or ideological differences. Genuine humanism is found in the natural impulse to offers words of encouragement to another human being, no matter who it might be"..... Steven
We, football lovers from all countries, solemnly ask for the replay of match France-Ireland to the competent authorities, i.e. FIFA/UEFA. Actually, the French qualification to the World cup is solely due to a gross mistake of the referee, and its consequences are dire at several levels : sportive, economic, social and, last but not least, moral. Needless to say, the video referee should be the rule from now on for all football Mondial Cup matches.
Pierre de Coubertin, French at the origin of Olympic Games, can't be happy to go to these not ethical conditions to Nelson Mandela.

There may be days when you get up in the morning and things aren't the way you had hoped they would be. That's when you have to tell yourself that things will get better. There are times when people disappoint you and let you down. But those are the times when you must remind yourself to trust your own judgments and opinions, to keep your life focused on believing in yourself. There will be challenges to face and changes to make in your life, and it is up to you to accept them.
constantly keep yourself headed in the right direction for you. It may not be easy at times, but in those times of struggle you will find a stronger sense of who you are. So when the days come that are filled with frustration and unexpected responsibilities, remember to believe in yourself and all you want your life to be. Because the challenges and changes will only help you to find the goals that you know are meant to come true for you.
So how do you get a society to accept a National Holiday based on the slaughter and decapitation of Native Indians of land they were raped and murdered for. By the same founding colonial fathers of the great "free land" that took it from them their land and sold it off to you.
Well you change the true accounts of how the holiday came to be and then make sure all the history books depict it as being a thankful day that we celebrated with those we slaughtered. Get it? And then you have sit down dinner festivities where an ANIMAL is SLAUGHTERED and DEVOURED by the ancestors of these murderers in celebration each and every year. Then you can still have the festivities, but no one is the wiser. It's like having an Inquisition day or better yet, a Holocaust day celebrating how the Nazis and the Jews sat down and had a really nice dinner together. Instead of the truth.
Still think America is blessed? Yeah, why? The decapitated Natives or the slaughtered turkeys?
A free land eh, wasn't so free for the Natives. Cost them their heads. So here's a nice little bit of information about the "Founding Fathers" and the Free Land(s) of America. Why believe it? Why would they lie??
In 1641, the Dutch governor of Manhattan offered the first scalp bounty; a common practice in many European countries. This was broadened by the Puritans to include a bounty for Natives fit to be sold for slavery. The Dutch and Puritans joined forces to exterminate all Natives from New England, and village after village fell. Following an especially successful raid against the Pequot in what is now Stanford, Connecticut, the churches of Manhattan announced a day of "thanksgiving" to celebrate victory over the savages. This was the 2nd Thanksgiving. During the feasting, the hacked off heads of Natives were kicked through the streets of Manhattan like soccer balls.
The killing took on a frenzy, with days of thanksgiving being held after each successful massacre. Even the friendly Wampanoag did not escape. Their chief was beheaded, and his head placed on a pole in Plymouth, Massachusetts, where it remained for 24 years. Each town held thanksgiving days to celebrate their own victories over the Natives until it became clear that there needed to be an order to these special occasions. It was George Washington who finally brought a system and a schedule to thanksgiving when he declared one day to be celebrated across the nation as Thanksgiving Day.
It was Abraham Lincoln who decreed Thanksgiving Day to be a legal national holiday during the Civil War, on the same day and at the same time he was ordering troops to march against the Sioux in Minnesota.
In our society, it is not uncommon for our modern celebrations to have arisen from evil beginnings. Over the centuries, Thanksgiving has become a special day to join with loved ones in an offering of thanks for our blessings. Some give their time to help with the homeless and hungry. It is now a day of giving, and of honor, and of true thanksgiving.....
