Cello, Voice, Electric Bass
An award winning music graduate of the Etobicoke School of the Arts, Elena recently completed the four year Bachelor of Music program at the University of Toronto. She has studied cello with Charita Holod, Shauna Rolston and Marina Hoover and has been performing regularly at clubs, concerts and private functions for over ten years. Elena has also been featured on several recording projects.
Principal cellist with the Mooredale youth Orchestra, Elena also performed with the Mississauga Youth Orchestra and the University of Toronto Symphony and Chamber Orchestras.
An extremely versatile musician, Elena is a composer and arranger and, in addition to the cello and electric bass, plays guitar and recorder. She is also an accomplished vocalist. Currently Elena is working with Moira Nelson on a new CD to be released this summer. Her composition Shadowlands has been selected to appear on a compilation album, which will be released some time next year.

Moira Nelson

Born in London, England, Moira moved to Toronto as a child and began her musical education with piano lessons at the Royal Conservatory of Music, and privately with Mona Bates. By the age of 12 she had passed her Grade 10 piano examination and was performing her own compositions at concerts and recitals. Her studies broadened to include harmony, composition, voice and classical guitar.
Still in high school, Moira made her professional debut as a pianist with a jazz quartet. A chance encounter during a vacation in England led to extensive appearances in and around London where she worked as a soloist, playing guitar and singing Celtic and traditional music along with her own original songs.
Several years later, Moira began playing the harp, an instrument she had always dreamed of mastering. She is past President of the Toronto Chapter of the ISFHC (International Society of Folk Harpers and Craftsmen) and plays a 36-string Enchantress harp, which was custom designed and built for her.
Moira has released two CDs consisting mainly of original material. On her debut album, Time Calls My Name, she performs all of the vocals and instrumentals. After the Fall, Moira second CD, also includes performances by Elena Jubinville (cello, voice), Kathryn Moses (flute) and Rick Shadrach Lazar (percussion). Both of Moiras CDs have received airplay across Canada on the CBC and a variety of other radio stations. Her music has also been broadcast as far away as Belarus and Australia and her original harp solo, Moonfyre, was chosen by Keltika for release in Italy.
An accomplished and versatile artist, Moira has worked extensively as a soloist and with a variety of small ensembles. Her busy schedule includes concert and studio work in addition to private and corporate functions. At the present time, Moira is at work on several recording projects including a new CD with Elena Jubinville.

Hi, and thanks for the friendship! The Danish composer Per Nørgård's music has been much on my mind the past few years. Arguably the most important now living Scandinavian composer also has a remarkable output for the guitar. I spent a couple of years working with the composer on this repertoire, spanning from 1973 to 2000, in order to embrace the emerging performance practice associated with his work.
I have just uploaded 10 new tracks, all taken from "Tales From the North", my double CD box with the complete guitar works of Danish composer Per Nørgård. Also, in my latest blog you will find recent reviews of this release.
