I have won a few awards for song writing (Port Fairy folk festival, 2005 and Pacific songwriting comp, 2005). I convene the Darebin songwriters Guild who are a collective of local songwriters who meet monthly to network and support each other and from this association I've been lucky enough to join forces with 3 other really talented musos to form this terrific new acoustic ensemble appropriately named..Unsung'
2008 was a huge musical year for me playing alongside my Unsung mates at Port Fairy Fringe, Brunswick Music Festival, The Basin, Darebin Music Festival and Maldon Folk Festival in November last year. What fun that all was.
In Sept 08 I launched my project .. Unsung Heroes of Australian History... This has been a baby of mine for a couple of years compiling stories and writing a whole suite of contemporary folk songs depicting the extraordinary lives of lesser known characters in 200 years of Australian history. I had the wonderful assistance of Bruce Watson, Christina Green, Neil Robertson, Wendy Ealey( who wrote the accompanying narration) Stephen Sharpe , Kerry Ang and Leticia Maher. It was a great night and promises to have a big future in education/ music festivals around Australia. More to come as this project develops.
2009 is going to a big year as well. Still writing but playing regularly around Melb venues with the new look Unsung. Keep an eye on our gig guide!
