Morris W. O’Kelly would probably tell you his inability to just shut up served as the foundation to his writing career. Armed with crayons, liquid paper and indefatigable determination, he sequestered himself at Kinkos and faxed the nationally syndicated Jim Rome radio show daily. Under the nom de plum of ‘Dark Gable,’ he offered his irrelevant and irreverent opinions on sports, entertainment and culinary etiquette. To which Jim replied back:
“Please stop faxing me you semi-comical freak.”
- Jim Rome (11.20.95)
With that ringing endorsement, Morris matriculated to email and published occasional Op/Ed pieces in the Los Angeles Times and entertainment periodicals. It was from one scathing film review in the L.A. Times that a bitter filmmaker responded back, “YOU try to write a screenplay (you) a-hole”…and so he did.
Four of them.
Professionally, Morris was named a 2003 Guy Hanks/Marvin Miller (Bill Cosby) Screenwriting Fellow and 2002 Writers’ Digest Honorable Mention in two different categories. In addition, was named one of 25 ‘Superbachelors’ for 1999 by Ebony Magazine for his community work and contributions. These days, he's Producer/Editor for the Tavis Smiley Show on Public Radio International and is a featured columnist with Urban Network Magazine and the entertainment website Electronic Urban Report (www.eurweb.com). You might have heard of the The Mo'Kelly Report...
Uh...well you SHOULD have.

OK, so it's not a household name yet. But it's at least a backyard name. That's got to count for something.
His body of entertainment work has been featured in the Los Angeles Times, USAToday, L.A. Daily News, The Los Angeles Sentinel and dozens of other reputable news and entertainment outlets.
On a personal level, Morris is an accomplished musician, competent on some 10 musical instruments. Word on the street is that he sings in the shower and various Karaoke bars in and around the city. Best of all, he’s been accused of having average hygiene and marginal morals and values. When he grows up he would like to be 6’1”…that or a fireman. Seeing as he's 37 and still 5'9”, the fireman option is becoming more and more viable. Keep hope alive.
Hey Mo'Kelly...Just stoppin by to say hi and to bless your page with a little something from me...
Poetic Flow
This poetic flow that I have My pen to the paper, damn I’m bad The words just guide From my hand to the pad It’s like a thought unfinished Until my hand and wrist get to itching Then the words flow out so slick, so smooth Like my personality, so very cool It just hits me like a flash of light That’s when I begin to write Rhyming words and phrases Always giving praises I don’t know how I got it Where it came from But I take my pen and paper And with a thought I run Writing words as they come to mind Never hesitating, just writing my rhymes I don’t know how it happens, but one thing I do know God has blessed me, with this Poetic Flow…
