THE FACES OF TENNCARE: PUTTING A HUMAN FACE ON TENNESSEE'S HEALTH CARE FAILURE
In August of 2005 over 200,000 of the sickest and most vulnerable people in Tennessee were cut from Tenncare, the state funded medical insurance program.
"Faces Of Tenncare" is a 13-minute short documentary which explores how the loss of medical coverage has emotionally, physically and financially devastated the lives of thousands upon thousands of Tennesseans.
The short film features portraits by photojournalist Joon Powell, narrated by Minton Sparks with vocals and music by Maura O'Connell, John Prine and Steve Conn. Written, produced and edited by Molly Secours.
NOTABLE QUOTES ABOUT "FACES OF TENNCARE"
"Every state has faces like these. This film is an eloquent cry to the
nation to guarantee the basic right to health care for all our people. How can anyone who sees it ignore this worsening crisis any longer?"
Senator Edward M. Kennedy (D-MA)
"This film dramatically documents the need to add the 'right to health care' as a new amendment to our Constitution."
U.S. Congressman Jesse L. Jackson, Jr. (D-IL-2)
"A great society should never deprive someone of medical necessities. What is happening in Tennessee is one of many examples of our failed health care system. I have introduced H.R. 676 to provide universal health insurance to all Americans to make sure we do not repeat what is happening to constituents of Tennessee or anywhere else in this country."
U.S. Congressman John Conyers, (D-MI)
"Faces Of Tenncare recasts Tennessee's health-care crisis in stark human terms..."
