1. opposite elements; light, dark & the shadow between; balancing forces;
2. throwing heaven; a musical explosion of spirit from a graveyard in paradise;
bursts of sound releasing figments buried at the ends of the earth where heroes
were conveyed after death by their gods.
Bringing the dream state to life, Molotov Elysian creates a new musical tapestry out of things familiar. The music is Dream Pop.
Molotov Elysian is the experimental co-writing of Leah Chandra (of band Reflecting Skin) & Daisuke Fuchigami (of Translation Collapse), a delightfully unexpected combination of two strong personalities from remote aesthetic poles. Producer: Daisuke Fuchigami.
"While We Were Sleeping, is a nine song journey through a dreamscape of riddles and hidden, subconscious motives....Its like the bitter musings of Nine Inch Nails coerced into partnership with some sad medieval princess locked in an ivory tower. 9 out of 10" Santosh Lalonde, Punktv.ca, March 2007
"...'While We Were Sleeping' then, is the sonic equivalent of nightmares and nice dreams wrapped into a fifty-minute experience." Leonardslair.co.uk, Jan '07
"...If you are an connoisseur of electronic music strewn with a celestial voice, While We Were Sleeping is right up your alley! Arrangements are quite simply brilliant for this type of music. One can hear many subtleties, which intensify parts with dark effects. To give an idea, imagine Kate Bush with arrangements of This Mortal Coil...." (YKT) Bang Bang Te Mort, Volume 1 13 (translated from French)
"Molotov Elysian has a sound all their own. ...if you are searching for something new, edgy, and different with some solid musicianship behind it, you should definitely check them out." Looseylucy.com, Nov '06
"...proof that opposites attract. ...Chandra's vocals resonate like a passionate plea for redemption, and fall somewhere between ritual chant, psychoanalytical chatter, and jazz improvisation. ...In essence, her voice acts as an informative bond between the lush, yet fragile, melodic instrumentals and the jagged steel architecture and rogue circuitry of electronic sound provided by Fuchigami. ...Fans of Björk, Sigur Rós, and Dead Can Dance will definitely want to give this CD a spin. 8 out of 10 skulls." Michael Casano, Virus-Mag.com, Nov '06
"Angelic vocals raining down through atmospheric dance beats take the mind on a pleasant trip to a world of pure feeling. ...I would say that one of the bigger indie labels will be picking them up soon too. ... I can hear some Tori Amos ... some Tangerine Dream and even a little Black Tape For a Blue Girl. ... Skinny Puppy mixed in.... I would very much suggest check this band out. ... I will have to spin these tracks a few hundred more times." Black Angel Promotions, Nov '06
"[Like] Sarah McLachlan meets Trent Reznor....something you should check on,
even if it's not [falling] into [what you consider the genre of] your taste...."
Northeastintune.com, Oct-Nov '06
"...fantastic dark daydream..." ALL MUSIC GUIDE, Unquiet Grave IV '04
"How could something so soft and delicate have such mass? ...The ability to caress you with one hand is such an enticing attraction, that you don't initially realize the other hand is tearing your heart out through your back!" says CLEOPATRA RECORDS, '03
"Man, she's got a sweet voice." (of Leah Chandra) SOUNDCHECK MAG JUN '02
"Leah Chandra has a mesmerizing voice...which sometimes suggests influences by Kate Bush... but more often suggests only an intangible supernatural power." THE NOISE JUL '99
