The concept of Molotov Valentine was created in 2004 by guitarist/solo artist Dave Schmelick upon moving to Baltimore, MD. The intention was to, first, write and record a slew of original rock music that combined potent songcraft with blistering instrumental performance, all on his own. The second step was to assemble a quartet of stellar musicians capable of accurately transmitting the passion and the urgency that's inherent in Schmelick's compositions.
Thus, the first version of MV was formed in the fall of 2005. Throughout 2006, the group played upwards of 50 shows in the Baltimore/Washington D.C. area. MV was well received, and fans claimed that the band had sounds reminiscent of everything rock: from Foo Fighters and Stone Temple Pilots, to classic Van Halen and Steve Vai.
Molotov Valentine's much-anticipated first album, The Love and The Chaos, was released September 18, 2007. Entirely performed and produced by Schmelick, The Love and The Chaos is available exclusively through iTunes' U.S., U.K. and Japan stores.
