Gull-The Thin King 7"
GULL is the one man band solo project of Nathaniel Rappole. Yes, one man band, as in he plays guitar with his left hand, drums with his right, and sings through a telephone receiver embedded into a skull mask. GULL is a side venture for Rappole from his roles as the primary guitarist in Ultra Dolphins and behind the drums in Snack Truck. His unique blend of proggy classic rock and 90's Dischord-ish punk with Eastern vocal chants create a driving yet spacey atmosphere. Think Yes, Fugazi, Rush, and the Jesus Lizard locked up in a planetarium together.
This 7" renders two songs recorded live and all at once, as well as a couple almost fully live space jams. (13 minutes total). All copies of The Thin King includes a code for MP3 download, as well as a video. Highly detailed cover artwork by Kevin Hooyman and insert are printed on fully recycled paper. Recorded by Steve Roche (Pink Razors, The Catalyst, FOOD) at Permanent Hearing Damage in Philly, PA from May 29th-31st, and mastered by Paul Gold at Salt Mastering.
"Shackleton" video included in download content directed by Chad Middleton and recorded by Lance Koeler at Minimum Wage in Richmond, VA.
LITANY FOR THE WHALE- DOLORES 12" EP
On their debut EP, this four-piece exploit a gruffer take on heavy music, surrounding it with wailing feedback, darkened ambiance, and harmonious melodies. The end result is a chaotic and complex mix of hardcore, punk and metal elements, soaked with devastating levels of distortion, bass, and layered vocals. Their 23+ minute, 7-song EP was recorded at Prairie Sun Studios in Cotati, CA by Eric Leavell, with mastering handled by Carl Saff at Saff Mastering in Chicago, IL. Pressed on white vinyl with limited variations on coke bottle clear w/ black haze from MolSook and translucent red w/ black haze from The Perpetual Motion Machine. The record will come packaged in heavy, black and white jackets with beautiful artwork created by Chris Taylor (Pg99, Pygmy Lush).
FOOD- S/T LP
"FOOD plays muddy rock with misanthropic themes, appealing to fans of the punky grunge that first came from the Pacific Northwest and the hardcore dirges that followed. But instead of crawling into the bong and relying on sludge-rock parlor tricks, FOOD cranks up the speed and excitement, and injects their music with a positive element, celebrating the beauty of nature. This is granite rock, not stoner rock. Imagine a tree root making its way through a full stack. A cymbal's crash echoing across a canyon while the sound of a drop-tuned guitar mirrors the call of a wild bird. That is FOOD, as enjoyed in rare captivity for five songs on this self-titled forty-minute album, available on 180-gram vinyl in January ‘09 from Molsook Records. Listen then leave, remembering the songs while you breathe mountain air."

HEX MACHINE -- Run To Earth EP
Keeping the spirit of 90's noise rock alive, Hex Machine's “Run To Earth” EP is easily the best representation of the band to date. Low tuned dominating guitar driven rock in the vein of The Melvins, VAZ, Amphetamine Reptile artists, etc. Moderately mathy rock fused with some electronically fried soundscapes, and echoey vocals that creep up on you. In the vinyl format there are splashes of subtle noises/mumblings/guitar riffs that didn’t really translate on cd. Sinister layers galore here, listen closely! The band comes together from a rich array of old Richmond bands, like Sliang Laos, Human Thurma, Tulsa Drone, Farquhar, and ((HRM)) to name a handful.
Copies are on 3 different colored vinyl variations; "Sunshine Yellow," White with a Robin's Egg Blue haze, and Grey with a Robin's Egg Blue haze. Each record comes with a CD version of the EP.
THANK GOD/TIGERSHARK 10" Split 10" featuring fellow Richmond, Virginia band TIGERSHARK (ex-The Assistant, The SetUp) and South Carolina's THANK GOD (ex- Guyana Punchline, Antischism). This split 10" release features 3 songs from each band and comes packaged in a two-color silkscreened jacket with artwork by our friend Ryan McLennan. This is a collaborative release, split with TICK TOCK RECORDS and PERPETUAL MOTION MACHINE. TIGERSHARK/¡APESHIT! 12" Complimented with the beautiful cover artwork by local Richmond artist Kate Horne, this album includes 5 songs from Tigershark (coming out to about 18 minutes), and 12 ¡APESHIT! jams.
Tigershark (ex-The Assistant, The Setup, Are You Fucking Serious?!?, current member of Mouthbreather) is a Richmond, VA 3-piece that play Melvins-esque low-tuned dirty punk/metal. They've been compared in reviews to bands like Old Man Gloom, Akimbo, His Hero Is Gone, and Akimbo.
¡APESHIT! (ex-Kilara, current member of Ghastly City Sleep) is from Brooklyn, NY and play fast with unique hooks refreshing to punk rock; Loud and raw with a kind of mid 90's punk style. Compared to Heroin, Mohinder, a lot of Gravity Records bands. On purple/lavender vinyl

ay Have you heard of "Wingnut dishwashers union" or "Johnny Hobo & the freight trains"
the guy behind it all is remarkable. He's a huge inspiration to me. I think his names Pat. 'Pat' the Bunny. He's somewhere in Virginia. I forget the name of the place...how terrible I must seem.
I was in RVA two weeks ago today working for Witte. He told me you were out of town on a belated honeymoon. Firstly, congrats! Secondly, see you next time!
