I would like to meet you at this MOMBOB..5! Sign up party is Saturday April 7th at 3pm until 7pm., March 25th at the BBC 2022 E North Ave. Milwaukee, WI. Check out the club. Have a bite to eat and get any and all of your questions answered in person, we will try to help you pick a category, make sure you have open dates all the way through the MOMBOB, It is pretty much first come first serve, and you can book a slot right there, but there is a chance it might need to be moved, very unlikely, but other open nights for you would give the scheduling more options, best to give any days that don't work for the band too. Important point, band spokesman is the guy who receives the Studio time in the case of your band breaking up, and is the recipient of the Studio discount. Also if your drummers a lefty, or what kind of instrumentation you may have plays a part in nightly scheduling. Coin toss will determine order of appearence the night of your gig, example, thursday night show, music starts at 9pm, coin flip 8 30. There is advantage in playing last, (ask anybody whoever saw the Grateful Dead sober) The coin flip winner has choice when to play, but if the bands work out their own order of appearance and everybodys happy, It doesn't matter to the organizers, Its up to the coin flip winners as to when they play as a rule. Being that the music and the voting process is over well before bar time, we will probably have some blues and funk jams afterwards, depending upon interest of the musicians and time remaining. Also if your a trio, or a seven piece band with horns keys and steel guitar attempts will be made to pair your act with similiar acts. Play what you play, just because your in a certain category does not mean you can't slip in a slow one, or a raggae tune for example. Just be original. MOMBOB organizer Brian Wurch is a 20 year semi pro on Milwaukee music scene, formerly Psycho Bunnies Nervous Records London, currently Bobby Rivera and the Rivierias (instrumental surf) the Gigolos (5 piece human jukeboxes) and the XXXcelerators (original rock).... and no, they will not be in the MOMBOB.

Plenty of slots open! almost half the metal bands are touring acts from distant lands! very few bands on "friends" list are entered, top friends are bands in the MOMBOB, so check them out there and check out the schedule of acts and dates. Round two "Wildcard" winner receives 8 hours studio time, a paid gig at Center street daze September 15, and an invite to Miramar Theatre Grand Finale.
All round one nightly winners and category wild card band receive 8 hours studio time (a 400 dollar value) and a 25 dollar gift certificate from Wades Guitar Shop.
All entering bands that do not advance receive a twenty percent discount at any one of the sponsoring studios (if booked within 2007 and not to excede 50 total hours at the discount rate). 40 an hour, that is a super deal.
The MOMBOB.5, we charge a $70.00 Entry Fee and then give every band 40 Advance tickets to their round 1 events (these tickets are only good for Round 1)which the band can then sell to fans, friends and family to cover the cost of the entry fee. Round one ballot/tickets to general public are $5 cover at the door. Round two, and Grand Finale at Miramar Theatre are ballot/tickets are $7.00 in at the door.
To ensure a quick changeover between acts on Event Nights, the MOMBOB.5 provides for your use (not abuse) a PA, 5 piece Drum kit, 1 Bass amp, a Hartke systems amp. Bring your own guitar amps, Snare Drum, cymbals, cymbal stands and Sticks. There will be a snare or two there as back up, as long as your drummer doesn't kill it, he can use either. Those are your basic sounding snares, or , bring your own. Some metal acts have double bass sound, if your drummer has the footpedal thats gives the sound, thats great. If your Heavy Metal Drummer needs his own complete rig for that sound, with the doublebass kick drums, let me know so out of fairness the other metal bands have option to bring their kit, or, use mine.
Contestant Acts may not exceed the 35 minute time limit, you will be disqualified without exception. NO COVER SONGS whatsoever including Sound Checks! disqualified for that too, and really foul language on stage will get the plug pulled too. no big stage banners, No one under 21 in the band,No prerecorded music, no keyboard samples, only tones. IDs will be checked nightly.
Every Round 1 Contestant Act which does not move on to Round Two receives a 20% Discount on recording studio time booked by the end of the year with any of our sponsors. Every Contestant Act receives two (1) FREE pitcher of beer! and Leinenkugel bottle of beer per player. Winner of Round 1 wins 8 hours of studio time (a $400.00 value). Round 1 is determined solely by the number of MOMBOB .5 official Ballots turned in to the Official Fish Bowl of Justice Ballot Receptacle. Official ballots are given to Contest Attendants (the fans)ONLY. One ballot/ticket at door charge. One ballot per person. MOMBOB 5 organizers, Event/Bar Staff are not allowed to turn in Ballots.
Each Contest Attendant (the fans) will enter the name of their favorite band choice of the night in a CLEAR LEGIBLE manner in order for the Ballot to be counted. Contest Attendants will have an opportunity to render their votes into the Official Fish Bowl Of Justice. Contest Organizers will count the Ballots from the Fish Bowl. Only those ballots in the Fish Bowl at the time of the first counting will be allowed as valid. In the case of a tie, there will be a recount. If needed there will then be a coin toss. The Round 1 Runner Up will move to round 2 as a Wild Card and win 8 hours of Studio time from a MOMBOB .5 Sponsor, a $400.00 value. For each of the three (4) main catagories one (1) contestant act which does not win it's Event Night in Round 1, but receives more ballots than any other same catagory round 1 contestant act not moving on to round 2 will move on as the Wild Card Act. (in other words...best second place) In the event of a Wild Card Act tie, a coin toss will decide. One representative from each band of its night will be present for the hand count of the ballots.
ROUND 2: Same as Round 1 with the exception of Wild Card band does not earn Studio time. The 40 tickets given for Round 1 to bands are not usable for Round 2. Admission $7.00 at the Door. All Attendents will get one (1) ticket. In addition to voting from Contest Attendants, Round 2 will have a minimum of 2 Official Judges from the Milwaukee Music Business Community; that is professional performers and people who book, hire, record, manage, write music reviews in newspapers, or play local music on the radio in the Milwaukee area.
Each Judge may assign a total of seven (7) Ballot Votes. Judges may split their votes between Contestant Acts. Judging criteria is "songwritting" "musicianship","interesting arangements" "vocals" "stage charisma"(do they have fun and smile,do they dress cool, put themselves across to the audience?) Contest Attendents (the fans) as defined in Round 1 are also allowed to cast One (1) Official Ballot. All Round 2 Ballots are to be turned in and counted in the same manner as described above, all counting instructions remaining in tact. The winner of their night (catagory) will receive an additional 8 hours Studio time for total of 16 hours. The One (1) Wild Card Act will move on to the Grand Finale Round however will not receive additional studio time, but will receive a paid gig at Center street daze september 15, Uptowner stage, unless it rains out.
Grand Finale: The final Round will be counted in the same manner as Round 2. The MOMBOB .5 Festival Grand Finale winner will be playing Leinenkugel stage at Summerfest, or on a weekday afternoon slot.
Please use a tuner, even before you go on stage. Have your cymbals built ready to go. Do not excede the 35 minutes. About the judges, most of them like to be anonymous, and the ones that like to be public about it are already drinking free, so no need to buy them a shot, or even chat them up before they are done voting, it just looks bad and the other bands are watching! Bands may give the soundman a chart as to who is playing what instrument, and where on the stage, and who is singing lead and backing. Also a note or two on paper as to what he might expect, such as "tuba intro on third song" otherwise let the guy do his impartial job as good as he can, for everybody, equally. You will get a sound check, take five minutes, and be introduced. Basic rule, nobody touches the board but him. If you have no monitor let him know. It is a battle of the bands, like any battle or any show at any venue for that matter, it is about drawing fans preferably drinking fans to keep the venue alive, keep the art form alive. Sometimes the "better" band doesn't draw as well every night, thats just reality, the songs on the Billboard top ten list are not the ten best songs either.
Obviously be cool with the other bands, its an oppurtunity to check out each other's acts on equal footing, for your fans to mingle. Perhaps you will decide to book some up-coming shows with whom your "competing" with in this showcase festival of original music we call "MOMBOB". Feel free to set up your merchandise on our promotional networking literature table. You are responcible for all valuables and sales. Get your new fan Email sign up lists out there. The reality is only one band will make it through every round with more votes than the other bands, upside is you will never hear such loud cheering for Milwaukee rock and roll anywhere else either. Many great acts have graced the MOMBOB stages since 1993, ussually bands with great vocals do really well, like MOMBOB 2002 overall winner "The Form". 2002 runners up "e Vibe" "The Woods", "Random Maxx" "Honeychild" again with the great vocal was overall winner in MOMBOB 3. Other noteable bands included "Apeman" "Cosmic Debris" "Mathew Haeffel Band" "Delmar" "Cobalt Fur" (amazing guitarist). .
"ILL Groove Movement" "Union Pulse" Brian Emmet's managed band from Madison "Insanity A.D." "Katella" put on a very professional glam metal show. "Anshar", all the way from Beaver Dam with a chartered bus full of head bangers stole the show every night, (and the barstools, and the MOMBOB banner, and all the Jack Daniels....) they rocked, returned everything after a while, and got booked at Summerfest though they finnished fourth, cuz.... somebody saw them rock. We introduce every band. We provide great sound, light (and a splash of fog, cuz thats how rock and roll should look) We make sure everybody gets listed in the free calendars in The Onion, Maximum Ink, The Shepherd Express, The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, so you don't have to. Feel free to do your own hand outs, flyers. All thursday and Sunday shows start at 9pm sharp.. Friday and Saturday shows start at 10pm sharp.Grand Finale show doors open at 7pm, show at 8:30pm. Thank you to all the people who come to our shows, we have only begun and you're making it so we can get started to make Conniption our career. However, local bands like us need support, because we have little money and lose out when we play out, so please SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL BANDS!!! We need all the help we can get.
