Music On Mission is a non-profit network of musicians and music lovers. Our primary goal is to provide more than one avenue for college-aged students, musicians, and other music lovers to get "plugged in" to social responsibility and global activism. In order to effectively mobilize against poverty and hunger we try to offer easily- accessible opportunities for volunteers and donors with less time to devote, while making hands-on trips and more involved participation available through our partnering humanitarian NGO's. A non-governmental organization (NGO) is a legally constituted organization created by private organizations or people with no participation or representation of any government. Often, international red tape prevents the hardest-hit places and people from recieving the aid that humanitarian organizations would provide. By partnering with organizations like FDF, our initatives can cut through that red tape more easily.
Our main initiative is micro-lending, a strategy that addresses poverty in a less conventional manner. Instead of a handout, applicants recieve a small starter loan for a simple business. Micro-loans are extended at a very low interest rate, and are repaid quickly by their grateful recipients. Typically, 98 percent or more of these loans are paid back in full, and as they're paid back, those funds can be recycled into more aid.
We host concerts and events to fund these micro-loans, Inviting local musicians to promote their bands by performing for a good cause. When a band expresses interest in doing a show, We help them contact the place where they want to play and the bands they want to play with. Volunteers promote the show at colleges, music venues, and over the internet. They also staff the show's crew, and provide an info booth with merchandise and literature about the organization, and also merchandise the bands have for sale.
Apart from the more accessible opportunities at home, there is also the option of travelling abroad with a group to build schools, teach, work in medical clinics, or facilitate the actual lending process.
Its our hope that this flexibility will allow us to access more volunteers to combat poverty and hunger, while promoting global awareness and improving America's image abroad. For more information, please look us up at
