Mommas in The Kitchen (or MiTK) was the brain child of vocalist Jamie Birch and Guitarist Nick Rawe who wanted to bring the Blues back to Coventry (and the world, but we try to take things one at a time).
By March of 2007 after three months of writing, and rehearshals with notable local musicians on the bustling Coventry circuit, songs that have become staple of the Mommas show were in the early forms of life and soon permanent bass and drums where found in Andrew Hoey and Mikey Clarke respectively.
Although none had played in a band before, the four soon gelled and it wasn't long before they began playing live; and since the 22nd of April 2007 (after only four weeks together) they have played over 80 gigs and earned a reputation for strong live performance.
The end of 2007 went with a bang with a gig at The Camden Barfly, and the band recently flew out to Germany to play in Berlin.
The band played an emotional gig at The Golden Cross on the 29th of March, gig 93 being Hoey's last as the band's bassist. David Ross came in to fill the position during a writing period in April.
The Mommas are currently in the process of writing new material and preparing for the summer gig season.
