has no aim and no key effect to express personal emotion. Neither is formal beauty a universally shared musical value, as much as film music or thrash metal are deliberately ugly. In these ways such definitions remain too narrow, but they are also too wide, since they cannot satisfactorily distinguish music from speech: public speaking, radio theatre, or recited poetry also combine sounds in more or less beautiful forms and with at least some kind of expressive functions.
Three members of MONALISA (guitarist Mark Paul Guiterrez, vocalists Larvie Mica Pangilinan and drummer Mohan William Sharma) was formed in last quarter of 2006 when they met through a fortunate series of underground music scenes. All three grew up in Sto. Tomas and Tanauan, Batangas but they have their own varied influences - ranging from atreyu, killswitchengage, flyleaf, silverstein, underoath, unearth, Funeral for a Friend, KESO and Saydie. Guitarist Ralp Nathaniel Tolentino and bassist Jessie Peralta came in to complete the band; both grew up in Calamba, Laguna with influences of Typecast, Ataris, Further Seems Forever, Armor for Sleep, Benton Falls, Taking Back Sunday, Saosin, Senses Fail, The Used and Dashboard Confessional - have led to a distinctive melodic sound which is infectious, heartfelt and rhythmically driven.
After an initial stint of rehearsing they entered a small underground show "A Night Of Hate and Forgiveness" at INBOX BAR in Batangas (that was their first show as MONALISA) last September 2006. Further shows were played around the Batangas and Laguna this weeks of December 2006 and first half of 2007. A flurry of writing and performing live in 2007 precedes a plan to record an EP this year 2007.MONALISA intend to tour and promote relentlessly throughout the new year to bring the music to audience as possible.
