Also visit a friend's Squidoo page, How to Paint an Icon – Learn Byzantine Iconography, and read a description with step-by-step photos of how an icon is painted.

Monastery Icons St. Luke Icon“Windows into heaven” -- for millenia Christians have used these words to describe icons, the classic form of Christian art which can be traced back to Saint Luke the Evangelist, the first iconographer. Icons of the Holy Virgin Mary painted by Saint Luke still exist today, and his artistic efforts won the approval of the Blessed Mother herself, who said: "May the grace of Him Who was born of me, through me, be imparted to these icons."

An icon is a holy reminder of Christ, the Blessed Virgin, and the Saints -- but also something much, much more. It is a channel of divine grace, opened to whoever approaches it prayerfully and receptively. Because of this, icons have been central to Christian worship and devotion since the beginning of Christianity. For example, the great Father of the Church St. John Chrysostom used to keep an icon of Saint Paul by him whenever he studied the Apostle’s Epistles, seeking inspiration and invoking the Apostle’s blessing.

Iconography was kept alive through the centuries chiefly by holy monks who preserved this spiritual and artistic tradition. And it remains alive today in the Monastery Icons collection offered by Sacred Arts Foundation.

Monastery Icons Divine Mercy IconOver the past twenty-seven years Monastery Icons have become the most beloved icons in America, adorning sanctuaries, schools, and homes throughout the country. Monastery Icons is a unique collection of sacred art, featuring almost 200 images of Christ, the Virgin Mary, the Holy Angels and Saints, and the events of the Gospels. It combines classic iconographic composition and themes with all the advantages of contemporary creation: rich, bright colors and English text. Only here will you find such a broad selection of modern saints and Christian themes, such as the Divine Mercy, Saint Elizabeth Seton, San Juan Diego, and many others.

Monastery Icons has expanded its selection of sacred art to include icons from Russia and Greece, and attractive gifts such as traditional religious jewelry and statuary, and tapestries, banners and stained glass featuring Monastery -- something for everyone and for every occasion.

Monastery Icons also offers Monastery Incense, a unique blend of the highest quality aromatics available in 16 exquisite fragrances. Monastery Incense burns evenly, without scorching or “burnout” or gumminess.
