MONCADA ROCKS 2008
SATURDAY 7 JUNE 2008, Brudenell Social Club
4th annual all-dayer benefit gig raising money to buy basic necessities (e.g. sanitary towels and blankets) for our sisters in jail in Colombia, unfairly imprisoned simply for being trade union activists.
Bands confirmed so far:
* THE DEMON BARBERS
(folk-funk-punk complete with a violin - one of the best bands in the country, without a doubt)
* BOW & ARROW
(fantastic stoner metal riffs from Liverpool, premiering in Leeds for the first time)
* THE HYDROPATHS
(real rowdy folk punk for drunken fun)
* CONQUEST OF STEEL
(real NWOBHM metal with all the blood and props)
* BEARHEAD
(heavy, alternative, supergroupery)
* SKULL BRANDED PIRATES
(metal with expensive pirate outfits and side-splitting puns)
* TANGAROA
("much over-looked" says Kerrang, technical metal heaviness)
* GUEST SPEAKER (on Colombia, Cuba, Venezuela and Latin America and more besides) - BOB CROW, General Secretary, RMT. The Sun newspaper's current hate figure comes all the way from London to Moncada Rocks....
