MONDAY NIGHT POETRY TURNS OFF THE MIC AFTER ALMOST 4 YEARS
SYRACUSE, NY--February 1, 2008
Monday, February 4, at 8:00 PM, Monday Night Poetry hosted its last open mic. After an almost four year run, Monday Night Poetry is pulling the plug on its weekly reading. A mainstay to the local poetry community and a warm room and venue for travelling poets, Monday Night Poetry excelled at creating an atmosphere of creativity and poetic excellence.
Over the past four years, the series has played host to such out of town power-house performance poets as Roger Bonair-Agaard, Rachel McKibbens, Andrea Gibson, Stacey (Exodus) Smallwood, Tony Brown, Victor Infante, Leah Deschenes, Rick Lupert. The series also had the pleasure to host some of the premier local poets--Georgia Popoff, Jennifer MacPherson, Michael Sickler, Patrick Lawler, Linda Pennisi, Lyrae Van Clief-Stefanon--and elbowed out a space for young, up and coming talented poets to perform and work on their writing. Monday Night Poetry's stellar programs culminated in a sold-out night January 5, 2008 at The Redhouse featuring poets Mike McGee and Robbie Q. Telfer and musical guests Jeff Bujak and The Magnetic Pull.
